(PRESS RELEASE) STOCKHOLM, 26-Aug-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — This September, Stockholm University is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Royal National City Park with a nature photography exhibition and a series of guided walks exploring the park’s unique heritage.

From 1 to 5 September, the Student House at Frescati will host an exhibition of photographs by Henrik Ekman, renowned photographer, journalist, and author. The exhibition highlights the park’s rich biodiversity through Ekman’s images of animals and landscapes captured over the years, including memorable scenes such as squirrels leaping through the trees and glimpses of historic sites like Fiskartorpet near the university. The Student House is open Monday to Thursday, 06:30–22:00, and Friday, 06:30–20:00, with admission free during regular hours.

The Royal National City Park stretches across Ulriksdal, Hagaparken, northern Djurgården, Gärdet, Södra Djurgården, and the Fjäderholmarna islands, and was the world’s first designated national city park when it was established in 1995. To commemorate its 30-year milestone, Stockholm University is arranging activities throughout the year, inviting both students and the public to engage with the park’s cultural and ecological significance.

As part of the autumn programme, the university is also offering guided walks led by staff, continuing the tradition of popular spring tours that focused on wetlands, climate history, art, and even night-time “batwalks.” The upcoming walks will explore themes such as “Frescati – art and nature, inside and out,” scheduled for 11 September. All walks are free of charge but require advance registration.
