(PRESS RELEASE) BUSSNANG, 22-May-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Stadler is proud to announce the delivery of eight new cogwheel trains to Transports Montreux-Vevey-Riviera (MVR), a subsidiary of Montreux Oberland Bahn (MOB). These state-of-the-art panoramic multiple-unit trains will serve the scenic route from Montreux to the summit of Rochers-de-Naye from 2029, providing passengers with unparalleled views of the Alps and Lake Geneva. With large panoramic windows and a high level of comfort, these trains are designed to enhance the tourism experience, offering an optimal journey for visitors to the stunning Swiss mountain destination.

The contract, signed on 20 May 2025, marks the beginning of a new era for MVR as the fleet of 40-year-old trains is replaced with these modern, custom-designed vehicles. Built at Stadler’s plant in Bussnang (TG), the new trains are specifically tailored to meet the needs of tourists seeking to experience the beauty of the Vaud Alps and the Swiss Riviera. The trains feature large panoramic windows, including ones in the center carriage that provide an extraordinary view of the landscape, and also include a first-class compartment for added comfort.

Stadler worked closely with the renowned Italian design studio Pininfarina to create the train’s unique and elegant design. Beyond the aesthetics, the trains also meet the latest technical standards, ensuring a high level of functionality. Each train is approximately 40 meters long and can accommodate up to 216 passengers, with features such as energy-efficient air conditioning and regenerative braking technology that converts braking energy into electricity for reuse, contributing to the environmental sustainability of the service.

“We are thrilled to be part of this project, which will revolutionize the mountain railway experience,” says Frédéric Evequoz, Sales Manager for Customised Vehicles at Stadler. “The combination of cutting-edge cogwheel technology, iconic design, and panoramic views makes these trains a perfect fit for the scenic route to Rochers-de-Naye. We are proud to contribute to creating a truly unique travel experience.”

Georges Oberson, CEO of MOB, shares his excitement: “This is undoubtedly the most beautiful cogwheel train ever built, and it will offer an unforgettable journey for our passengers. The new trains embody the future of mountain railways, combining elegance, sustainability, and innovation.”
