SSAB and Meka Pro Oy Partner to Produce Sustainable Cable Management Systems with Fossil-Free Steel

(IN BRIEF) SSAB and Meka Pro Oy have signed an agreement for the supply of fossil-free steel to be used in manufacturing cable management systems, such as cable ladders and trays. Starting in 2026, Meka Pro Oy will receive low-emission steel, with increasing volumes over time. This initiative is expected to reduce the carbon footprint of Meka Pro’s products by up to 95%. The partnership aligns with both companies’ commitment to sustainability, and it will support Meka’s Solar product line, designed for solar power plant installations. Meka Pro Oy, a family-owned business, has been calculating its product carbon footprints since 2022 and is dedicated to further enhancing its long-lasting, high-quality offerings.

(PRESS RELEASE) STOCKHOLM, 19-Sep-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — SSAB and Meka Pro Oy have entered into a partnership to supply fossil-free steel for the production of cable management systems such as cable ladders and trays. Under the agreement, Meka Pro Oy will begin receiving small quantities of SSAB’s low-emission steel in 2026, with volumes increasing as SSAB ramps up its fossil-free production. This shift is expected to reduce the carbon footprint of Meka Pro’s products by up to 95%. The collaboration aligns with Meka’s focus on sustainability, especially within its Solar product line, which supports solar power plant installations.

Meka Pro Oy has calculated the carbon footprint of its products since 2022, and with Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) in place, the integration of fossil-free steel will further enhance the long life cycle and quality of its offerings. The modular design of Meka products makes them adaptable and durable, further contributing to sustainable practices.

Both companies share a commitment to reducing environmental impact. Oskari Ylimaula, Director of Production, Logistics, and Sustainability at Meka Pro Oy, emphasized the importance of quickly offering these low-carbon products to customers.
