SNCF Voyageurs Expands RER NG Fleet with New Alstom Order for Île-de-France

This brings the total fleet to 166 trains, designed to modernize the RER E and RER D lines. The RER NG trains, already operating on the RER E line since late 2023 and set to launch on the RER D line by the end of 2024, offer advanced features such as air-conditioning, USB ports, wheelchair accessibility, and improved capacity for up to 1,563 passengers. Developed across nine Alstom facilities in France, the trains enhance performance with eight motor bogies and a top speed of 140 km/h, reflecting Alstom’s commitment to innovative and sustainable transportation.

(PRESS RELEASE) SAINT-OUEN-SUR-SEINE, 9-Dec-2024 — /EuropaWire/ —  Alstom (EPA: ALO), a French multinational rolling stock manufacturer and leader in sustainable and green mobility solutions, announces that SNCF Voyageurs has confirmed the purchase of 35 additional RER NG trains, valued at nearly €520 million and fully financed by Île-de-France Mobilités. This new order brings the total number of RER NG trains commissioned to 166, including 130 designated for the RER E line and 36 for the RER D line, marking a significant step in the modernization of the region’s transport network.

The RER NG, Alstom’s latest generation of double-deck trains, was specifically designed for the Île-de-France region to enhance passenger comfort and network efficiency. The trains feature advanced amenities such as air-conditioning, USB charging ports, adaptable LED lighting, and increased accessibility, including wheelchair-friendly areas. With improved capacity and flow, each train can accommodate up to 1,563 passengers, ensuring a smoother travel experience.

The RER NG began operations on the RER E line in November 2023 and will be introduced on the RER D line by the end of 2024. Alstom’s nine French production sites, including facilities in Valenciennes-Petite Forêt and Crespin, are contributing to the design and assembly of the trains.

This procurement is part of a broader framework agreement signed in 2017, emphasizing Alstom’s role in advancing smart, sustainable mobility solutions. With a maximum speed of 140 km/h and innovative features like eight motor bogies for superior performance, the RER NG fleet is poised to transform the transit experience for the Île-de-France region.
