(PRESS RELEASE) STOCKHOLM, 28-Apr-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Skanska has signed a SEK 380 million contract with Skellefteå Municipality for the construction of Karlgårdsbron, a suspension bridge that will span the Skellefte River in Skellefteå, Sweden. The project, which will be included in the order bookings for Skanska Sweden in Q2 2025, involves the production and installation of the bridge, as well as related infrastructure improvements.

The new contract extends the initial agreement for the planning and calculation phase and covers the production phase, including the installation of the bridge, superstructure, paving, bridge additions, and lighting. Earthworks will also be carried out at each abutment to develop new pedestrian and bicycle paths, install water and sewage systems, and create landscaped areas with lighting.

Once completed, Karlgårdsbron will be Sweden’s longest wooden bridge, spanning approximately 400 meters. The bridge will feature wooden trusses, cross beams, and steel hangers, with a cross-tensioned wooden slab divided into 10 spans. It will serve as a vital link connecting Skellefteå’s various districts and will accommodate car, bus, pedestrian, and bicycle traffic.

Construction is scheduled to begin immediately, and the project is expected to be completed by November 2027.
