(IN BRIEF) Amazon and RWE have signed a 110 MW Power Purchase Agreement for electricity from the Nordseecluster B offshore wind farm in the German North Sea, building on their 2025 strategic partnership and supporting both companies’ digital and decarbonisation goals. The deal strengthens investment certainty for a major offshore project that will ultimately reach 1,560 MW across two phases, while helping Amazon progress toward its 2040 net-zero target and expanding its renewable portfolio in Germany to more than 790 MW of capacity.

(PRESS RELEASE) ESSEN / MUNICH, 3-Feb-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — RWE has concluded a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Amazon for 110 megawatts of electricity from its Nordseecluster B offshore wind project in the German North Sea. The agreement builds on the Strategic Framework Agreement signed between the two companies in June 2025, under which RWE supports Amazon’s carbon-free energy ambitions while Amazon Web Services (AWS) provides cloud, artificial intelligence, and data analytics capabilities to advance RWE’s digital transformation. Once operational, the contracted capacity is expected to generate enough renewable electricity to power more than 139,000 German households annually.

The Nordseecluster offshore wind farm is located approximately 50 kilometres north of the island of Juist and is being developed in two phases. Nordseecluster A, with a total capacity of 660 MW, is currently under construction and scheduled for commissioning in early 2027. Nordseecluster B will add a further 900 MW of capacity, with commercial operation planned for 2029. With long-term offtake agreements such as this one with Amazon, RWE is strengthening the financial foundation of the project while contributing to the decarbonisation of Germany’s electricity system. The wind farm is being delivered as a joint venture between RWE, which holds a 51% stake, and Norges Bank Investment Management, which owns the remaining 49%.

Ulf Kerstin, Chief Commercial Officer at RWE Supply & Trading, said that corporate PPAs such as this one are essential for accelerating Germany’s energy transition. He emphasised that they provide investment certainty for large-scale offshore developments, enabling the expansion of reliable, carbon-free generation and reinforcing the resilience of the national power grid.

For Amazon, the agreement represents a further step toward its commitment to achieve net-zero carbon emissions across its global operations by 2040. In Germany, Amazon already operates six onsite solar installations, and this new contract marks its fourth large-scale offshore wind PPA in the country. Taken together, Amazon’s ten renewable energy projects in Germany now exceed 790 MW of capacity and, once fully operational, are expected to generate enough clean electricity to power more than one million German households annually.

Rocco Bräuniger, Country Manager of Amazon in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, said that the partnership with RWE supports Germany’s transition to a modern, low-carbon energy system. He added that Amazon will continue to back projects that expand the country’s renewable energy capacity while aligning with its long-term climate strategy.

Globally, Amazon has already contracted more than one gigawatt of renewable capacity across multiple RWE projects. This PPA marks the first collaboration between the two companies outside the United States, signalling a deepening of their international clean energy partnership.
