RWE Secures Eight New UK Contracts for Difference to Add 290 Megawatts of Solar and Onshore Wind Capacity

RWE Secures Eight New UK Contracts for Difference to Add 290 Megawatts of Solar and Onshore Wind Capacity

(IN BRIEF) RWE has successfully secured Contracts for Difference in the UK government’s Allocation Round 7 for five solar PV projects and three onshore wind developments, representing up to 290 megawatts of new renewable capacity capable of powering around 240,000 homes per year. The solar projects were awarded contracts at £65.23/MWh and the onshore wind schemes at £72.24/MWh, both indexed to inflation over a 20-year period, providing long-term revenue stability. The awards build on RWE’s existing UK footprint of over 30 operational wind farms and four solar sites, while complementing nine additional solar projects and four wind farms currently under construction. Taken together, the results reinforce RWE’s commitment to expanding its UK renewables portfolio, supporting national decarbonisation objectives, and strengthening its position in one of its most strategically important markets.

(PRESS RELEASE) ESSEN / SWINDON, 10-Feb-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — RWE has secured a series of new Contracts for Difference (CfDs) in the UK government’s Allocation Round 7 for established renewable technologies, winning support for five solar photovoltaic projects and three onshore wind schemes. Together, the successful projects represent up to 290 megawatts of new renewable capacity, enough to generate electricity for around 240,000 homes annually once operational.

In the competitive auction process, RWE’s solar developments, totalling 215 megawatts, were awarded contracts at a strike price of £65.23 per megawatt hour, while the three onshore wind projects, with a combined capacity of 76 megawatts, secured contracts at £72.24 per megawatt hour. These strike prices are expressed in 2024 terms and will be adjusted for inflation over the 20-year lifetime of the agreements, providing long-term revenue certainty for the projects.

The awards reinforce RWE’s growing presence in the UK renewables sector. The company already operates more than 30 onshore wind farms across the country, delivering approximately 730 megawatts of installed capacity. In the solar segment, RWE commissioned its first UK site, the Langford project in Devon, in June of last year and now operates four solar PV installations with a total capacity of 185 megawatts. In addition, nine further solar projects with around 440 megawatts of capacity are currently under construction, alongside four onshore wind sites totalling roughly 230 megawatts.

The latest CfD wins form part of RWE’s broader strategy to expand its low-carbon generation portfolio in the UK and contribute to the country’s energy transition. The secured projects will add significant clean power capacity to the grid, supporting national decarbonisation goals while strengthening RWE’s long-term asset base.

Commenting on the outcome, Katja Wünschel, CEO of RWE Renewables Europe & Australia, described the results as a major milestone for the company. She highlighted that securing long-term offtake agreements for eight new projects demonstrates RWE’s continued commitment to delivering its development pipeline in the UK and underlines the strategic importance of the British market to the group’s growth ambitions.
