Neste Oil’s NExBTL renewable diesel to generate the electrical power for the Down By The Laituri Festival in Turku, Finland July 24 and 28 2013

22-7-2013 — /EuropaWire/ — Neste Oil’s NExBTL renewable diesel, produced from 100% renewable inputs, will be used to generate the electrical power used at the Down By The Laituri Festival in Turku, Finland between July 24 and 28 2013. Down By The Laituri will be the first event in the country to use electricity generated solely by renewable fuel.

The Green Event Energy concept – based on Neste Oil’s NExBTL renewable diesel and developed by marketing agency Happening Oy and ToikkaTech – opens up a completely new renewable experience for both event organizers and visitors.

“Event organizers have been waiting for the opportunity to be able to use renewable electricity at their events also when electricity from the network is not available. NExBTL renewable diesel offers a great way to do just that,” says Happening Oy’s Pasi Tamminen.

Events based on the Green Event Energy concept source their electricity from generators running on Neste Oil’s NExBTL renewable diesel. Using NExBTL diesel results in 40-90% lower greenhouse gas emissions over the fuel’s life cycle compared to fossil diesel. It has also been shown that NExBTL renewable diesel reduces other exhaust emissions significantly as well and contributes to improved air quality.

The Green Event Energy concept was also used at the Tall Ships Races event held in Helsinki between July 17 and 20 this year. Feedback from its use there was very positive.

“NExBTL renewable diesel did the job perfectly, and overall fuel consumption was lower than initially estimated as well,” says ToikkaTech’s CEO, Eero Toikka. “Thanks to the cleanliness of NExBTL, exhaust gas from the generators was also free of that ‘diesel smell’ you normally get.”
