Mongolian Export Consulting Week training programme part of EU funded and EBRD implemented Support to SME Development in Mongolia

19-8-2013 — /EuropaWire/ — The Mongolian Management Consulting Institute (MMCI) has launched “Export Consulting Week”. The week will focus attention on export promotion activities, and will emphasise consulting as an effective tool to help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) increase their exports.

The programme will begin with a three-day training for local management consultants on export promotion consulting services, followed by an assessment of the barriers to exporting faced by Mongolian SMEs.

This initiative is part of Support to SME Development in Mongolia – an EU-funded project implemented by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

“If Mongolian SMEs want to increase exports, they need to take a systematic approach. Consultants can help by providing the necessary expertise,” said Enkhbat Enkhbayar, President of the MMCI.

There are currently more than 400 consulting firms in Mongolia providing a range of services, including marketing, strategy, human resources, and software solutions. Established in 2011, MMCI is an association that promotes the consulting sector, and seeks to increase the diversity of services offered by consultants.

“Many SMEs require basic information on how to export,” explained Bat-Amgalan Baatarjav, Director of the Ministry of Labour’s SME Development Department.

Support to SME Development in Mongolia will work with business associations to train SMEs on export fundamentals. From this starting point, SMEs can develop export strategies, either on their own or with a consultant.

Said Matthieu Le Blan, EBRD’s new Head of Office in Mongolia: “An increase in non-mining exports will contribute to Mongolia’s economic diversification. The SME sector is an important employer in Mongolia, and exports are one of the most promising avenues for growth.  As we know from our work with companies in the manufacturing and retail sectors, many of these companies have potential for export.”

Bat-Amgalan Baatarjav and Enkhbat Enkhbayar will be available during the week to discuss this initiative.
