Martijn Bergink to lead Alfa Laval Marine Division from 1 September 2025 as Sameer Kalra retires after a decade of transformation

(IN BRIEF) Alfa Laval has appointed long-time executive Martijn Bergink as President of its Marine Division, effective 1 September 2025. Bergink, who joined the company in 1998 and currently leads the Business Unit Pumping Systems and serves as Managing Director of Framo, will join Group Management and retain his existing roles. CEO Tom Erixon praised Bergink’s deep sector knowledge. The Marine Division accounted for 40% of Alfa Laval’s 2024 order intake and employs 6,300 of the Group’s 22,300 staff, focusing on energy efficiency, decarbonization, digitalization and environmental compliance. Bergink said he is “honoured and excited” to guide the division through the industry’s decarbonization journey. He succeeds Sameer Kalra, who retires after leading the division since Alfa Laval’s acquisition of Aalborg Industries in 2011 and helping develop products to decarbonize the merchant fleet. Kalra highlighted the privilege of steering the Marine Division through the energy transition and looks forward to family time in Singapore. Erixon noted that Kalra leaves the business, portfolio and culture in excellent shape.

(PRESS RELEASE) LUND, 23-Jul-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Alfa Laval has named Martijn Bergink President of its Marine Division, effective 1 September 2025. He will take the helm while continuing in his current capacities as President of the Business Unit Pumping Systems within the Marine Division and Managing Director of Framo, the Alfa Laval–owned company. In his new position, Bergink will also join Group Management.

A veteran of Alfa Laval since 1998, Martijn has held a series of senior leadership posts—most of them within the Marine Division—building a deep well of industry insight over nearly three decades. “Martijn has had a long and successful career in Alfa Laval and has a deep knowledge and understanding of the dynamics and developments in the marine industry”, says Tom Erixon, CEO and President, Alfa Laval.

In 2024, the Marine Division generated 40 percent of Alfa Laval’s order intake and employed 6,300 of the Group’s 22,300 people. The business delivers an extensive portfolio of products, systems and solutions for the maritime sector, with a strong emphasis on boosting energy efficiency, advancing decarbonization, accelerating digitalization and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.

“I am honoured and excited by the opportunity to lead the Marine Division. I look forward to further developing the business to meet future customer needs as we continue the decarbonization journey and seize the opportunities ahead of us. I’m also looking forward to joining Group Management to help shape the future for Alfa Laval,” says Martijn Bergink.

The leadership transition follows the planned retirement of Sameer Kalra, Executive Vice President and current President of the Marine Division. Sameer joined Alfa Laval through the 2011 acquisition of Aalborg Industries and has been pivotal in expanding the division and in developing technologies that support decarbonizing the merchant fleet. “It has been a big privilege to lead the transformation of the Marine Division through the ongoing energy transition,” says Sameer Kalra. “I have truly enjoyed being a part of the team on this journey. Now I am looking forward to more family time from my home base in Singapore.”

Tom Erixon added: “Sameer Kalra is leaving the Marine Division and the Marine team in very good shape to continue its journey. He has shaped the business, the portfolio and our culture more than most.”
