Linde Begins Supplying Industrial Gases to Support PT Freeport Indonesia’s Copper Smelting Expansion

(IN BRIEF) Linde has started supplying industrial gases to PT Freeport Indonesia, a subsidiary of Freeport-McMoRan Inc., via a newly constructed air separation unit (ASU), the largest in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. The $120 million ASU provides oxygen and nitrogen to PT Freeport Indonesia’s copper smelter in Manyar, enhancing production efficiency and reducing fuel consumption and emissions. Additionally, the ASU will supply liquefied gases to other customers in East Java, further expanding Linde’s reach in the region. (PRESS RELEASE) WOKING, 30-Oct-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Linde has commenced the supply of industrial gases to PT Freeport Indonesia, a major mining company and part of Freeport-McMoRan Inc., following a significant investment of $120 million to construct and operate a new air separation unit (ASU) on site. This ASU, the largest of its kind in Indonesia and Linde’s largest in Southeast Asia, now provides essential oxygen and nitrogen to PT Freeport Indonesia’s copper smelting and refining facility in Manyar, one of the world’s largest copper processing locations.

Additionally, the ASU will produce liquefied industrial gases for distribution to both new and existing customers in East Java, strengthening Linde’s network in the region. According to Moloy Banerjee, President of Linde’s ASEAN & South Asia division, the supply of industrial gases plays a crucial role in enhancing the efficiency of copper smelting by boosting production capacity, reducing fuel usage, and lowering emissions. Banerjee emphasized that Linde’s advanced technology ensures a safe, reliable supply of gases to this expanding industrial market.
