Lemminkäinen announced its share of damages related to the asphalt cartel is EUR 48 million

LEMMINKÄINEN’S SHARE OF DAMAGES RELATED TO THE ASPHALT CARTEL SPECIFIED TO APPROXIMATELY EUR 48 MILLION WITH INTEREST AND EXPENSES

Helsinki, Finland, 09-12-2013 — /EuropaWire/ — On 28 November, the District Court of Helsinki gave its decisions in the legal proceedings concerning damages related to the asphalt cartel. According to the District Court, Lemminkäinen’s share of the damages is approximately EUR 48 million (damages of approximately EUR 26 million as well as interest and legal expenses of approximately EUR 22 million).

Lemminkäinen’s share consists of damages ordered to only Lemminkäinen, Lemminkäinen’s share of the damages ordered to it and other asphalt industry companies to be paid jointly and severally, as well as interest and legal expenses related to the damages as follows:

– Of those 26 claims, where Lemminkäinen was the only defendant, Lemminkäinen was ordered to pay to 25 plaintiffs a total of approximately EUR 29 million, of which damages of approximately EUR 15 million as well as interest and legal expenses of approximately EUR 14 million.

– Of those 13 other claims, where there were other asphalt industry companies as plaintiffs together with Lemminkäinen, the District Court ordered the defendants to pay to 10 plaintiffs a total of EUR 31 million, of which damages of approximately EUR 19 million as well as interest and legal expenses of approximately EUR 12 million. Part of this amount is ordered to be jointly and severally paid with many defendants, which means that if any defendant does not pay its share ordered by the District Court, other defendants have to pay that share. According to the District Court, Lemminkäinen’s share among the defendants is a total of approximately EUR 19 million, of which damages of approximately EUR 11 million as well as interest and legal expenses of approximately EUR 8 million.

Regarding these 39 claims, the District Court of Helsinki ordered Lemminkäinen and other asphalt industry companies to pay to 35 plaintiffs a total of approximately EUR 60 million, of which damages of approximately EUR 34 million as well as interest and legal expenses of approximately EUR 26 million.
