(PRESS RELEASE) MADRID, 10-Feb-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Since its opening in 2023, Telefónica’s LaCabina has become a central hub for showcasing innovation, welcoming more than 30,000 visitors from around 5,000 companies and institutions. Located within Distrito Telefónica in Madrid and spanning 2,200 square meters, the space has proven to be an effective platform for demonstrating cutting-edge digital solutions, with over 40 percent of visiting organizations subsequently integrating Telefónica technologies into their own operations.

LaCabina functions as the core of the Telefónica District Innovation and Talent Hub, a strategic environment designed to accelerate digital transformation across multiple sectors. The facility is organized into nine thematic areas dedicated to Business Applications, Innovation, Smart Buildings and Smart Cities, Tourism, Retail and Industry, Education and People, and Healthcare and Advanced Home Care. Across these spaces, more than 270 interactive experiences illustrate how emerging technologies can be applied in real-world business and public service contexts.

Among the most prominent demonstrations are advanced applications based on quantum computing that enhance secure data sharing, digital kiosks designed to streamline citizen interactions with public administrations, and sustainability-focused solutions such as a device that compresses plastic bottles to 10 percent of their original volume while rewarding users with incentives or service discounts. The center also features telecare and healthcare technologies that support elderly care and improve medical service delivery, as well as smart industrial systems that leverage next-generation connectivity and automation.

Additional highlights include smart labels capable of digitally recording a package’s journey for up to six months while monitoring temperature conditions, wearable devices that track livestock location and health indicators, and an assistive technology program that enables people with disabilities to type and listen to text using only eye movements.

LaCabina is equipped with one of the most advanced 5G infrastructures in Telefónica’s network, incorporating mid-band and millimeter-wave frequencies alongside capabilities such as Edge Computing and Network Slicing in their full commercial configurations. This robust connectivity environment allows visitors to experience high-performance digital services in a controlled yet realistic setting.

In recent months, Telefónica has expanded LaCabina’s offerings to include solutions that demonstrate enhanced network observability and AI-driven predictive maintenance. These innovations aim to optimize fiber deployment and increase network autonomy through self-healing algorithms, reducing downtime and improving overall efficiency.

The space was first presented at the 2023 Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona with the objective of giving companies and institutions direct access to Telefónica’s latest technological developments. As MWC returns in March 2026, LaCabina continues to serve as a key showcase for the company’s innovation agenda.

Since its launch, LaCabina has hosted more than 300 events in collaboration with external organizations, including national and international security agencies. It has also partnered with Escuela 42 to organize a hackathon where participants developed new network-based use cases within 48 hours, one of which focused on improving the traceability of international shipping containers and remains on display at the center.

Visitors to LaCabina can also interact with an AI-powered system that provides guided tours in over 40 languages via smartphone, offering personalized explanations of the exhibits. Additionally, Telefónica has expanded its robotic presence at the site, incorporating not only the automated quadruped Spot but also care and assistance robots, rehabilitation devices, and an autonomous intralogistics robot to demonstrate advanced automation capabilities.
