Kapsch Introduces OmniAir-Certified 6C Windshield Transponder Designed to Improve Toll Data Accuracy and System Interoperability

Kapsch Introduces OmniAir-Certified 6C Windshield Transponder Designed to Improve Toll Data Accuracy and System Interoperability

(IN BRIEF) Kapsch TrafficCom has earned OmniAir certification for its new 6C sticker windshield mount transponder, confirming interoperability with tolling systems and introducing advanced data reliability through parity-checking chip technology. The transponder automatically detects and mitigates bit-flip errors, ensuring accurate toll reporting and reducing billing mistakes. The device was validated through extensive testing at DEKRA, SunTrax, and Kapsch’s Saugerties test track to meet OmniAir Open Road Tolling 6C multiprotocol RFID R2.0 standards. The certification marks Kapsch’s third OmniAir-approved product under the multiprotocol program in 2025 and reflects the company’s ongoing role in developing interoperable and reliable tolling solutions.

(PRESS RELEASE) VIENNA, 27-Feb-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Kapsch TrafficCom has announced that its latest 6C sticker windshield-mounted transponder has achieved OmniAir certification, confirming full interoperability with industry tolling systems while introducing enhanced data reliability features. The new transponder incorporates advanced chip technology with integrated parity checking to detect and correct memory errors, helping ensure that tolling data remains accurate and dependable.

The device uses parity checking to automatically validate stored information and mitigate the impact of bit-flips, which are random data errors that can occur due to environmental factors or hardware aging. By identifying and correcting such errors before data is transmitted, the transponder helps prevent incorrect information from reaching tolling systems. This capability supports more accurate billing processes and reduces administrative issues caused by mischarged accounts.

The 6C sticker tag underwent comprehensive testing to meet OmniAir Open Road Tolling 6C multiprotocol device RFID R2.0 standards. Certification testing included protocol conformance validation at the DEKRA Test Laboratory, real-world operational testing at the SunTrax facility in Auburndale, Florida, and precision testing at Kapsch’s Saugerties test track, where performance was compared with previously certified devices.

This certification represents the third Kapsch product to receive OmniAir approval under the multiprotocol device program in 2025, demonstrating the company’s continued involvement in advancing interoperable tolling technologies. Kapsch has been an active participant in the OmniAir Consortium, including involvement in early multivendor vehicle-to-everything tolling demonstrations held during the Florida Plugfest.

Lauri Brady, Vice President of Connected Vehicles and Component Sales at Kapsch, emphasized that the integration of parity checking directly addresses real-world data reliability challenges by ensuring that tolling agencies receive consistent and accurate information from transponders operating in demanding conditions.
