Fontainebleau, France, Singapore, Abu Dhabi, 27-1-2014 — /EuropaWire/ — INSEAD, the leading international business school, announces the establishment of a new senior administrative team to oversee its operations across its three campuses in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Dean Ilian Mihov, the Novartis Chaired Professor of Management and Environment, Dean of INSEAD since October 2013, appointed his new academic team, naming Professors Peter Zemsky, Timothy Van Zandt, Michael Pich and Urs Peyer, to new roles in the Office of the Dean. Eric Ponsonnet, Director General of Administration; Mark Roberts, Associate Dean for Executive Education and Joanne Shoveller, Associate Dean for Advancement and Alumni Relations will continue in their current roles and complete the leadership team.

“I am very pleased that these colleagues have agreed to join INSEAD’s leadership team,” said INSEAD Dean Ilian Mihov, “I look forward to working with these thought leaders who have contributed so much to the school already and whose dedication and insights will play an important role in advancing our vision for INSEAD in the years ahead. Together, we will continue to insure innovation in teaching and nurture the school’s vibrant intellectual environment.”

Peter Zemsky, the Eli Lilly Chaired Professor of Strategy and Innovation, was named Deputy Dean and Dean for Strategic Initiatives and Innovation. He had served as Dean of Degree Programmes since 2011, substantially growing the programmes and launching a new Executive MBA section, as well as a specialised Masters in Finance degree and an Executive Masters in Consulting and Coaching for Change degree. He had also served as INSEAD’s Interim Co-Dean, with Ilian Mihov, since March 1, 2013. In this new role, Zemsky will be based on INSEAD Europe Campus and oversee the school’s digital technology strategy and advance key strategic initiatives, including INSEAD’s Abu Dhabi Campus and its initiatives in Latin America. An expert in competitive strategy and industrial organisation, Zemsky earned his PhD from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. His research has appeared widely in leading economics and strategy journals, and his doctoral students have earned professional distinction for their teaching and research.

Timothy Van Zandt is the new Dean of Faculty and Research, replacing Ilian Mihov who held that previous role before becoming Dean of the school. Van Zandt is American and has been Professor of Economics since coming to INSEAD in 1999. Since 2011, he had been the Academic Director of INSEAD’s PhD programme. He continued to implement key changes started by his predecessor and has advanced the entire overhaul of the programme. For the last decade, Pich co-directed INSEAD’s flagship open-enrolment programme, Transition to General Management, in addition to directing many other company-specific programmes. He earned his PhD in Operations Research from Stanford University. His publications include extensive case studies and journal articles related to innovation management, project and process management, and entrepreneurship—areas of his expertise.

Urs Peyer has been named Dean of Degree Programmes. Peyer is Swiss national, joined INSEAD in 2001 and is Associate Professor of Finance. He will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing the school’s prestigious MBA, Executive MBA and specialised degree programmes. Peyer has published his research in the top finance and managerial journals. He has taught in the school’s MBA programme since joining INSEAD, as well as in several executive programmes. He also has directed both company-specific and open-enrolment programmes. Peyer earned his doctorate in finance from the Kenan-Flager Business School, University of North Carolina. His research interests include corporate governance, executive compensation and empirical corporate finance. Previously, he worked in the portfolio management team for a subsidiary of Credit Suisse and was a pilot in the Swiss Airforce. He will be based on INSEAD’s Europe Campus in Fontainebleau.

In addition, Phanish Puranam is taking over from Timothy Van Zandt as the Academic Director of INSEAD PhD Programme. Phanish is the Roland Berger Professor of Strategy & Organisational Design. He joined INSEAD in September 2012. Prior to that he was School Chair Professor at the London Business School, where he was on the faculty since finishing his PhD at Wharton in 2001, and where he served as the Chair of the PhD Programme from 2010 to 2012.

Professor Miguel Sousa Lobo, Portuguese national, will continue to act as the Director of the Abu Dhabi Campus; Lobo’s research deals with sequential decision making, with a focus on applications that includes revenue management and optimal pricing, as well as market microstructure and optimal trade execution. He also works on methods for the analysis of social networks. Lobo holds MS, MA, and PhD degrees from Stanford University and completed his undergraduate work at Instituto Superior Técnico in Portugal. After two years working with start-up companies in Silicon Valley and prior to joining INSEAD, Professor Lobo held academic appointments at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business and, as visiting professor, at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business.
