Instant SIM Migration Now Available with Pixel 9a as Vodafone Introduces eSIM Transfer Feature

(IN BRIEF) Vodafone Germany has introduced the new eSIM Transfer feature for customers upgrading to the Google Pixel 9a, available from 14 April 2025. Developed in collaboration with Google and based on the GSMA TS43 standard, the feature allows users to transfer their existing Vodafone eSIM or physical SIM profile to the new device via Wi-Fi—no QR codes or login required. The Pixel 9a automatically detects a nearby previous Pixel and initiates the transfer during setup. Vodafone is the first operator to launch a Google device with this profile reuse capability. The feature will expand to other Vodafone European markets in the near future and also allows users to transfer SIMs later or convert a physical SIM to eSIM directly from device settings.

(PRESS RELEASE) BERKSHIRE, 14-Apr-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Vodafone Germany is introducing a streamlined mobile experience for customers upgrading to the new Google Pixel 9a, thanks to the launch of a convenient eSIM Transfer feature available from 14 April 2025. This new function enables Pixel users to seamlessly move their existing Vodafone eSIM or physical SIM profile to their new Pixel 9a device without the need for QR codes or manual reactivation.

The eSIM Transfer process has been designed to make device upgrades smoother than ever. During the Pixel 9a setup, the device can detect a nearby older Pixel smartphone and instantly initiate the SIM or eSIM migration over Wi-Fi—automatically deactivating the profile on the previous device and activating it on the new one with a single click.

This new functionality is the result of close collaboration between Vodafone and Google, built on the GSMA TS43 industry standard for eSIM migration. Vodafone is the first operator to launch a Google smartphone with this profile reuse capability, setting a new benchmark for mobile transitions.

Customers also have the flexibility to manage SIM changes post-setup. In the Pixel 9a settings, users can initiate an eSIM or SIM transfer at a later time or convert their physical SIM to an eSIM without requiring a SIM swap request.
