Hexagon Launches Improved PULSE System to Support Reliable and Scalable Measurement Workflows Across Manufacturing Sites

(IN BRIEF) Hexagon’s Manufacturing Intelligence division has launched an upgraded version of its PULSE environmental monitoring solution for coordinate measuring machine environments. The enhanced system expands its sensing capabilities to track environmental factors such as temperature, humidity, vibration, shock, and probe deflection, helping manufacturers improve measurement accuracy and reliability on the shop floor. With new features including integration with automation systems, improved probe deflection detection, and expanded compatibility across different CMM setups, the solution addresses challenges associated with dynamic production environments. The modular design also supports future upgrades, while the plug-and-play installation ensures ease of adoption for both new and existing users. Overall, the upgraded PULSE enables more reliable inspection processes, reduced downtime, and increased confidence in measurement results.

(PRESS RELEASE) STOCKHOLM, 30-Mar-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Hexagon, through its Manufacturing Intelligence division, has introduced an upgraded version of PULSE, its real-time environmental monitoring solution designed for coordinate measuring machine (CMM) environments. The latest evolution of PULSE aims to strengthen measurement accuracy and reliability by providing deeper insight into environmental conditions that influence metrology performance.

The enhanced system expands its monitoring capabilities beyond the CMM itself, offering continuous tracking of key variables such as temperature, humidity, vibration, shock, and probe deflection. By capturing these factors in real time, manufacturers can better understand and manage conditions that may compromise measurement outcomes. This helps reduce unnecessary rework, prevent inaccurate readings, and maintain trust in inspection processes, particularly in dynamic shop-floor environments.

Luca Sala, Product Manager for Digital Solutions at Hexagon, highlighted the increasing need for environmental visibility as metrology processes move closer to production lines. He explained that PULSE enhances traditional CMM capabilities by extending sensing beyond the machine, enabling manufacturers to maintain precision, minimize downtime, and operate with greater confidence in real-world manufacturing settings.

The upgraded PULSE directly addresses challenges commonly found in production-adjacent environments, where fluctuating temperatures, vibrations, and unexpected physical disturbances can influence measurement results without immediate detection. Unlike controlled metrology labs, shop-floor conditions are more variable, making it difficult to determine whether deviations stem from environmental influences or equipment-related issues.

To meet these challenges, the updated solution introduces several new hardware and platform features aligned with modern manufacturing and automation requirements. These include native integration with factory and automation systems via Hexagon’s Metrology Communication Interface (MCI), allowing PULSE data to be seamlessly shared with PLCs, MES platforms, dashboards, and other automation tools without complex IT integration.

The system also introduces improved probe deflection monitoring, enabling operators to differentiate between general environmental disturbances and actual probe collisions that may require recalibration. This capability helps teams respond more accurately, reducing unnecessary interventions and saving time.

In addition, PULSE now offers broader interoperability and a modular architecture that supports future expansion with additional sensors and functionalities. Compatibility has also been extended across all Hexagon CMMs, as well as mixed-fleet environments, allowing manufacturers to standardize environmental monitoring across multiple sites and equipment types.

These advancements collectively contribute to improved machine uptime, greater confidence in inspection results, and more reliable automated and unattended measurement processes.

The updated PULSE solution is available for order starting March 30, 2026. New customers can acquire it as a complete package, while existing users can upgrade through a straightforward plug-and-play process involving updated sensors and software. Installation is designed to be quick and simple, typically requiring no specialized service support and taking approximately five minutes to complete.
