(PRESS RELEASE) LEINFELDEN-ECHTERDINGEN, 29-Aug-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — In a significant move towards sustainable urban management, the cities of Athens and Thessaloniki have ordered 89 FUSO eCanter electric trucks to enhance their waste collection operations. These trucks, outfitted with advanced truck bodies from Greek manufacturer KAOUSSIS, are designed for efficient and eco-friendly waste management in urban environments.

The eCanter trucks, which boast a battery capacity of 82.6 kWh and a range of up to 140 km, will be equipped with innovative features such as rotating drum compaction technology, which is particularly suited for collecting organic waste. The compact design and high maneuverability of the eCanter make it ideal for navigating narrow city streets, while its emission-free operation allows for early morning collections without disturbing residents.

The truck bodies, developed in collaboration with KAOUSSIS, feature a range of advanced technologies including a hydraulic lift system with RFID technology, a dynamic weighing system, and an integrated container washing system. These features ensure that the waste collection process is not only efficient but also meets the highest standards of hygiene and safety.

Florian Schulz, Head of Sales, Marketing, and Customer Services at FUSO Europe, emphasized the suitability of the eCanter for urban waste management, highlighting its environmental benefits and operational efficiency. The trucks are expected to begin operation in November, with the full fleet rollout scheduled for completion by the end of next year.

About the FUSO Canter

Thanks to the smallest turning circle in its class, its high payload and its versatility, the FUSO Canter has been an international bestseller among light trucks for more than six decades. Since its market launch in 1963, over 4.5 million FUSO Canters have been produced worldwide. The vehicle is available in five weight classes (3.5 t to 8.55 t), with six wheelbases (2,500 mm to 4,750 mm), three powerful engines (130 hp to 175 hp) and three cab variants (standard (1.7 m wide), comfort (2.0 m) and crew cab (2.0 m).

The Canter and the all-electric eCanter are produced for the European market at the Mitsubishi Fuso Truck Europe plant in Tramagal, Portugal, and for all other markets at the Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation plant in Kawasaki, Japan.
