Fincantieri Unveils 54,300 GT Viking Mira as Part of Expanded 28-Ship Ocean Fleet

(IN BRIEF) Fincantieri’s Ancona shipyard today launched the Viking Mira, a 54,300 GT cruise ship scheduled to commence operations in spring 2026 across the Mediterranean and Northern Europe. The ceremony, led by Gilberto Tobaldi and Gastone Lazzari, marked the vessel’s move into final outfitting. Viking Mira, accommodating 998 passengers in 499 staterooms, represents the boutique segment of Viking’s all-Fincantieri-built ocean fleet, which now totals 28 ships under delivery, contract, or option. All vessels comply with the latest safety and environmental regulations, featuring energy-efficient engines and advanced exhaust treatment. The Ancona yard—covering 360,000 m² with 60,000 GT capacity, heavy-lift capabilities, and robust hull production—has delivered 20 ships since 2009. Its 3,700 employees drive continuous improvement through the Operations Excellence program, employing robotics, AI, and other innovations.

(PRESS RELEASE) TRIESTE, 1-Aug-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — At Fincantieri’s Ancona shipyard, the newest addition to Viking’s ocean fleet, the Viking Mira, was ceremonially launched and now enters its final outfitting phase. Slated to embark on its maiden voyages in spring 2026, the ship will sail both Mediterranean and Northern European routes.

The launch event featured remarks by Gilberto Tobaldi, Director of the Ancona Shipyard, alongside Gastone Lazzari, Viking’s New Building Site Team Manager, underscoring the close collaboration between the shipowner and the builder.

Measuring approximately 54,300 gross tons, Viking Mira will house 499 staterooms and host up to 998 guests, classifying her among the boutique cruise vessels in Viking’s collection. She is one of 28 ships that Fincantieri has either delivered, is constructing, or is contracted to build (including options recently secured) for Viking.

Every Viking vessel adheres to the latest international safety and navigation regulations. They are powered by high-efficiency engines and feature cutting-edge exhaust gas treatment technologies to comply with the most rigorous environmental guidelines.

The Ancona yard, spanning 360,000 m², remains one of Fincantieri’s premier production centers. It offers a capacity of 60,000 GT, lifting systems capable of handling up to 500 tons, and monthly hull fabrication of 1,200 tons. Since 2009, the facility has delivered 20 ships, a testament to the dedication of its 3,700-strong, multinational workforce. As part of Fincantieri’s Operations Excellence program, the yard continuously integrates advanced robotics, AI, and other innovative technologies to boost efficiency and craftsmanship.
