Exolum Unveils State-of-the-Art Fuel Storage Facility at Expanding Jorge Chávez Airport in Lima

(IN BRIEF) Exolum has launched its newly expanded fuel storage facility at Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima, marking a significant advancement in Latin America’s aviation infrastructure. The $100 million investment features state-of-the-art storage tanks, filtration systems, and a fully automated, environmentally friendly refuelling operation. This expansion supports the airport’s goal of handling up to 40 million passengers annually, while also reducing carbon emissions and ensuring greater sustainability in aviation.

(PRESS RELEASE) MADRID, 3-Jun-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Exolum has officially launched its fuel storage and aircraft refuelling operations at the newly expanded Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima, marking a major milestone in Latin America’s aviation infrastructure. The company has invested over $100 million to build a state-of-the-art fuel storage facility that sets a new benchmark for airport fuel supply systems in the region.

The advanced fuel storage terminal, which spans five hectares, features four large storage tanks with a combined capacity of 35,000 cubic meters, allowing the airport to significantly increase its fuel stock autonomy from two days to eight days. The facility also includes seven fuel reception islands with cutting-edge filtration systems, and six high-capacity pumps that supply the airport’s hydrant network, which stretches 10 kilometres across the apron area and services 130 aircraft stand positions.

This fully automated plant is managed from a centralised control centre and has been designed with a focus on environmental sustainability, incorporating the latest safety and prevention technologies. Exolum will operate the facility throughout the concession period, enhancing the efficiency of aircraft refuelling operations through its electrified hydrant network, which helps reduce CO₂ emissions and reliance on truck-based fuel transport. Additionally, Exolum will introduce a fleet of sustainable refuelling vehicles, including fully electric options and solar-powered fuel bowsers.

The expansion of Jorge Chávez Airport, which now covers 935 hectares, is poised to triple its capacity. With a current annual passenger volume of 24 million in 2024—a 15% increase from the previous year—the airport is expected to accommodate up to 40 million passengers annually, further solidifying its position as a major air transport hub in Latin America.

Jorge Guillén, Aviation & Spain Network Lead at Exolum, commented, “Exolum’s involvement in the Jorge Chávez International Airport project reinforces our presence in Latin America and underscores our commitment to providing innovative, sustainable solutions to the aviation sector. This new infrastructure enhances Peru’s air connectivity and global competitiveness, ensuring the airport is well-equipped to handle growing passenger and cargo traffic.”
