Eneco Launches White Paper Advocating for Policies to Shift Household Energy Use and Introduces Off-Peak Contract for 2025

(IN BRIEF) Eneco’s latest white paper advocates for government policies to support households in shifting their electricity consumption to off-peak hours, which can ease grid congestion and better utilize sustainable energy. The company is also introducing a new off-peak energy contract, Eneco VoordeelMomenten, in summer 2025, offering lower electricity rates during off-peak times. Customers can save between €30 and €230 annually by adjusting their electricity usage. The white paper also calls for changes to energy data regulations, VAT exemptions on home batteries, and incentives for controllable devices, with energy suppliers playing a key role in encouraging these shifts.

(PRESS RELEASE) ROTTERDAM, 28-May-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Eneco has introduced a white paper (only in Dutch) advocating for government policies to encourage households to adjust their electricity consumption patterns and promote more efficient use of the country’s electrical grid. The paper also unveils a new off-peak contract called Eneco VoordeelMomenten, which will be available starting in the summer of 2025.

Households have the potential to significantly alleviate grid congestion by shifting their electricity use from the busy morning and evening periods to off-peak times. This simple adjustment can have immediate benefits, making better use of sustainable energy and easing strain on the electrical grid. However, for this shift to happen on a larger scale, Eneco stresses that government action is necessary to support smart energy consumption.

In its white paper, Eneco advocates for several key policy changes, including:

  • Improving regulations around the sharing of energy data;
  • Removing VAT from home batteries;
  • Creating the possibility for flex bonuses for controllable devices.

The white paper suggests that energy suppliers and grid operators should also incentivize households to shift their energy usage patterns, offering financial rewards for reducing peak consumption.

One such incentive is Eneco’s new Eneco VoordeelMomenten contract, which will offer households a dual-rate pricing system. This contract will feature a lower electricity rate between 10 am and 5 pm, as well as from 10 pm to 5 am, when demand is lower, and more renewable energy is available. The off-peak rate will be 30% lower than the standard rate during peak hours. By taking advantage of this pricing model, customers can reduce their energy costs by shifting their usage to off-peak times, such as running dishwashers, washing machines, or dryers. Additional savings can be achieved by adjusting the use of heat pumps or electric vehicles.

Households with the Eneco VoordeelMomenten contract can expect to save between €30 and €230 annually, depending on their energy consumption patterns. Eneco aims to provide a practical and financial incentive for customers to contribute to a more sustainable and efficient energy future.
