Founded in 1984 by Prof. Dr. Günter Zimmer, Dr. Klaus Weyer, and Norbert Ellenberger, Elmos has evolved from a start-up in Dortmund Technologiepark to a leading global supplier of automotive mixed-signal semiconductors.

The company began with the vision of manufacturing customer-specific microchips using CMOS technology. By 1987, with the addition of Knut Hinrichs to the management team, Elmos had established itself as a key player in the automotive sector, initially providing customized microchips to BMW and other manufacturers. The company expanded its Dortmund site and set up its first international sales companies. The successful IPO in 1999 fueled its growth, enabling a strategic focus on application-specific standard products (ASSP) and international sales expansion. Under the leadership of Dr. Anton Mindl (CEO from 2006 to 2020), Elmos solidified its market position and forged partnerships with leading manufacturing entities.

Today, Elmos is renowned for its innovative solutions in ultrasonic distance measurement, LED rear lighting, LED ambient lighting, motor control, and sensor ICs.
