Welsh Water begins £500,000 investment in Cimla

16-5-2013 — /europawire.eu/ —  Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water has begun work on a major investment project to upgrade the sewer network in Cimla, Neath.

The not-for-profit company is investing nearly £500,000 to replace sewers in Falcon Drive, Wren Avenue, Osprey Drive and Raven‟s Court. The work will increase capacity on the network which will help alleviate the risk of flooding and reduce blockages.

Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water‟s Project Manager Teresa O’Neill said:

“We are delighted to be able to start work on this considerable investment in Cimla. This investment will benefit the community for years to come by helping to alleviate flooding and blockage problems in future.

“While we are working there will be no impact on the water or wastewater service to local people, and we will try to get the job completed as quickly as possible. We know that our work can cause inconvenience and we are grateful for the ongoing cooperation of residents as these important works proceed.

Welsh Water has been working closely with the local community in planning this project. Commenting on the scheme, Cimla Councillor John Warman said:

“I welcome this significant investment by Welsh Water to bring the sewers up to standard. In the past there have a large number of problems with the sewers in the area and I have been in involved with the residents to seek a way forward.

“The hardship and expense that residents have experienced with the existing system will be eliminated by the commitment of Welsh Water to adopt and replace of the sewers. I am pleased that a consultation event was held before the work started to answer any anxiety issues or questions residents had.”

Welsh Water is investing heavily and working hard to ensure top quality services to all the communities it serves. The company is investing £1.5 billion in its water and sewerage network between 2010 and 2015.

As a “not-for-profit company‟ Welsh Water does not have shareholders, and any financial surpluses are reinvested in the business for the benefit of customers.
