Decade Long Investment Programme Positions ORLEN at the Center of Poland’s Energy Security and Transition Strategy

(IN BRIEF) ORLEN has committed PLN 380 billion over ten years to modernise Poland’s energy system, combining investments in gas supply security, offshore wind, grid expansion and emerging nuclear technologies. The first year has already delivered new gas reserves, LNG deliveries and progress on flexible gas-fired plants to stabilise the grid as renewable capacity grows. Offshore wind projects such as Baltic Power and upgrades led by Energa are expanding zero-emission generation and infrastructure, while the SMR programme advances plans for Europe’s first BWRX-300 reactor. The strategy is designed to ensure long-term energy security, support decarbonisation and drive economic growth through large-scale domestic investment.

(PRESS RELEASE) PŁOCK, 17-Feb-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — ORLEN has launched a large-scale investment programme aimed at transforming Poland’s energy system, committing a record PLN 380 billion over the next decade to strengthen energy security, expand domestic generation capacity and ensure access to competitively priced energy. The initiative, equivalent to approximately PLN 1,013 per capita annually, has already entered its first year of execution, with construction and development works under way at multiple sites.

Over the past year, ORLEN has focused on reinforcing gas supply resilience while simultaneously accelerating the deployment of renewable and low-emission energy sources. New gas reserves have been secured in both Poland and Norway, providing volumes sufficient to meet Warsaw’s demand for approximately 14 years. The company also expanded its LNG capabilities, receiving a record number of deliveries supported in part by its own fleet of LNG carriers, strengthening supply stability amid ongoing geopolitical uncertainty.

Exploration and production activities added nearly 10 bcm of new reserves, including additional volumes from the Norwegian Continental Shelf and newly documented resources in Poland. At the regional level, cooperation with Ukraine’s Naftogaz has included the delivery of 700 million cubic metres of gas, with potential to increase supply in 2026, underscoring the cross-border dimension of energy security.

To balance the rapid expansion of renewable generation, ORLEN is developing high-efficiency combined cycle gas turbine power plants designed to provide flexible backup capacity. Projects in locations such as Grudziądz, Ostrołęka and Gdańsk are advancing to ensure grid stability during periods of lower renewable output.

At the same time, investment in zero-emission energy is accelerating, particularly in offshore wind development. The Baltic Power project has moved into its final testing and pre-operational phase following completion of key installation works and is expected to supply clean electricity to around 1.5 million households once operational. Additional projects, including Baltic East and Baltic West, are intended to build long-term domestic renewable capacity.

Modernisation of the national grid remains a central pillar of the programme. Energa, part of the ORLEN Group, is expanding and upgrading infrastructure using support from national recovery funding. Over the past year, tens of thousands of new customers were connected to the network, and additional renewable capacity has been integrated, laying the groundwork for continued growth and future technologies such as small modular reactors.

ORLEN is also advancing nuclear-related initiatives through its SMR programme, with preparations under way for the construction of Europe’s first BWRX-300 reactor in Włocławek. These reactors are expected to provide stable, low-emission generation to complement renewable sources and support long-term decarbonisation.

Through coordinated investments in gas, renewables, nuclear technologies and grid infrastructure, ORLEN aims to create a resilient and modern energy system while fostering domestic industrial participation and economic development. The company intends to continue advancing these projects to secure reliable, cleaner and cost-effective energy supplies for Poland in the years ahead.
