Dassault Systèmes, Université de Moncton and Opportunities New Brunswick Unite with Dieppe, Moncton and Regional Partners on Virtual Twin Urban Planning Project

(IN BRIEF) Dassault Systèmes and the Université de Moncton have begun a six-month pilot to address housing, urban density, and conservation in southeastern New Brunswick. Using the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, they will create a 1,000 km² virtual twin of Dieppe and Moncton enriched with data from municipal and academic partners. The shared digital environment will allow planners to model development scenarios, assess environmental impacts, and make evidence-based decisions to balance growth with wildlife protection. Supported by Opportunities New Brunswick, the project unites local governments, educational institutions, and private firms, and aims to establish a reproducible framework for sustainable urban planning.

(PRESS RELEASE) VELIZY-VILLACOUBLAY, 16-Jun-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Dassault Systèmes (Euronext Paris: FR0014003TT8, DSY.PA) and the Université de Moncton have launched an ambitious six-month initiative to tackle housing shortages, urban densification, and ecosystem preservation in southeastern New Brunswick. Announced at VivaTech 2025 in Paris, the collaboration will harness immersive, data-driven virtual environments to chart sustainable growth for Dieppe and Moncton—two of Canada’s fastest-expanding metro areas—while safeguarding a designated wildlife corridor.

Leveraging the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, Dassault Systèmes will build a high-fidelity virtual twin of a 1,000 km² zone enriched with partner-supplied data on zoning, infrastructure, mobility, biodiversity, and more. Local stakeholders—including the cities of Dieppe and Moncton, the Southeast Regional Service Commission, Collège Communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick, and firms Black Arcs and Remsoft—will access this shared model to test planning scenarios, evaluate densification impacts, and make informed decisions that balance urban development with ecological stewardship.

“By delivering a large-scale territorial twin through a managed, cloud-based solution, we enable rapid deployment at reduced cost and risk,” said Josephine Ong, Vice President, Cities and Public Services Industry at Dassault Systèmes. “Municipal planners and community partners can simulate ‘what-if’ scenarios on one unified platform, empowering them to resolve complex urban and environmental challenges and enhance quality of life for New Brunswick residents.”

Francis LeBlanc, Associate Vice-Rector for Research and Dean of Graduate Studies and Research at the Université de Moncton, remarked, “This partnership places our university at the cutting edge of digital innovation for urban and environmental issues. We’re proud to contribute our regional expertise to a project with both local resonance and global applicability.”

Opportunities New Brunswick (ONB) facilitated the alliance between Dassault Systèmes and the Université de Moncton. “New Brunswick thrives on collaboration among research, industry, and government,” said Luke Randall, Minister responsible for ONB. “This project exemplifies how cross-sector partnerships can generate solutions with real impact here—and serve as a blueprint for communities worldwide.”

This proof-of-concept in New Brunswick will inform best practices for combining virtual twin technology with territorial data to drive sustainable urban planning—paving the way for replication across Canada and beyond.
