Daimler Buses unveils Mercedes‑Benz eIntouro, NMC4 batteries for eCitaro and Omniplus Charge infrastructure services at Busworld Europe 2025

(IN BRIEF) At Busworld Europe 2025 in Brussels, Daimler Buses will present eight vehicles indoors (plus three outside) and spotlight major advances in electromobility, safety and digital services. Headlining the lineup is the all-electric Mercedes‑Benz eIntouro, offered in two lengths (12.18 m and 13.09 m), featuring LFP batteries, a central motor and Europe’s first over-the-air software update capability for a bus. Daimler Buses is also showcasing the NMC4 battery generation for the Mercedes‑Benz eCitaro range from 2026, promising higher energy density, longer range and extended service life, with charging up to 150 kW (standard) and 300 kW (rapid). Setra will display the S 515 LE (MultiClass), S 515 HD (ComfortClass), S 516 HDH and S 531 DT (TopClass). New lifecycle offerings include battery refurbishment and, from 2026, battery replacement with next-gen packs—initially for the eCitaro. Infrastructure support now falls under the Omniplus Charge brand, delivering end-to-end eMobility and H2 solutions. Omniplus is also rolling out expanded digital services: OTA updates, speed-related geofencing, battery condition monitoring and a free Warranty Status tool, alongside a complimentary Digital Services Package for new buses (three years for diesel, six for electric).

(PRESS RELEASE) LEINFELDEN-ECHTERDINGEN/BRUSSELS, 23-Jul-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Daimler Buses is heading to Busworld Europe 2025 (Brussels, 4–9 October; press day on 3 October) with a clear message: the shift to electric, safe and sustainable passenger transport is accelerating. At Stand 503 in Hall 5 the company will showcase eight groundbreaking Mercedes‑Benz and Setra buses, with three additional Mercedes‑Benz vehicles outside—two available for test drives—underscoring its technological momentum.

The star attraction is the world debut of the Mercedes‑Benz eIntouro, a fully electric intercity coach conceived for school, shuttle and excursion services as well as shorter long-distance runs. Built on the proven diesel Intouro platform, the eIntouro swaps combustion for a central electric motor and LFP battery packs. Two body lengths—12.18 metres and 13.09 metres (eIntouro M)—give operators flexibility. In a first for a European bus, the eIntouro can receive software updates “over the air,” eliminating the need for workshop visits for many upgrades.

Electromobility progress continues with the premiere of the fourth-generation NMC4 battery technology for the Mercedes‑Benz eCitaro family (including the eCitaro G, eCitaro K and eCitaro fuel cell) from 2026 onward. Daimler Buses will display an eCitaro fitted with these packs in Brussels. NMC4 combines very high energy density—delivering extended range—with exceptional longevity. Durability is supported by gentle charging at up to 150 kW, yet the chemistry also tolerates regular fast charging at up to 300 kW.

Setra brings a representative slice of its current portfolio. The S 515 LE low-entry bus covers the MultiClass intercity segment, the S 515 HD high-decker exemplifies ComfortClass, and the lavishly equipped S 516 HDH super-high-decker flies the TopClass flag. For maximum capacity and versatility, the TopClass S 531 DT double-decker rounds out the display.

Daimler Buses is also unveiling lifecycle services aimed at extending the usable life of high-voltage batteries. Effective immediately, the company offers refurbishment (“reconditioning”) of electric bus batteries. Beginning in 2026, customers will also be able to swap to the latest, longer-range battery generation. Initially available for the Mercedes‑Benz eCitaro, these measures form part of a wider e-service push focused on total cost of ownership and sustainability across the entire bus and battery lifecycle.

Charging infrastructure support is being consolidated under a new brand: Omniplus Charge. Through Daimler Buses Solutions GmbH, the company now delivers consulting, design and turnkey implementation for both eMobility and hydrogen infrastructure. Working with internal experts and external partners, Daimler Buses can provide a complete ecosystem—from feasibility studies to tailor-made electric buses, civil works, electrical installations, charging hardware, battery storage, charging management platforms and related digital tools.

On the digital front, Omniplus continues to expand its offerings. Its Europe-wide service network—already the largest bus-specific network on the continent—is adding more specialized e-bus centres. New buses from Daimler Buses delivered this year can optionally receive a Digital Services Package at no cost for three years (diesel) or six years (electric). Brand-new capabilities include scheduled over-the-air system and software updates via the mobile network, debuting with the eIntouro. Omniplus On monitor tracking services plus now enables speed-related geofencing: operators define zones with capped speeds, and the bus automatically engages a limiter when entering those areas. For electric fleets, Omniplus On Battery Monitoring provides real-time insight into high-voltage battery health and usage recommendations, while the free Warranty Status tool tracks warranty compliance to avoid unintended breaches.
