Continental Expands Grand Prix 5000 Road Tire Lineup with New High Volume Performance Options for Modern Cyclists

The latest addition of 35mm width option to the race-proven GP5000 S TR range expands the tire’s capabilities across varied terrain, while enhancing comfort on longer, performance-focused rides.

(IN BRIEF) Continental has introduced two new tire size options in its high-performance Grand Prix 5000 road cycling lineup: the GP5000 S TR in 35mm and the GP5000 TT TR in 30mm. The wider GP5000 S TR model is designed to improve ride comfort and reduce vibrations by allowing lower tire pressures while maintaining speed and puncture protection, making it suitable for endurance riding and varied terrain. The GP5000 TT TR, focused on maximum speed, gains a 30mm option that increases the tire’s contact patch to enhance grip and stability during high-speed cornering while maintaining low weight and rolling resistance. Both models incorporate Continental’s key technologies, including BlackChili Compound, Vectran Breaker puncture protection, Active Comfort vibration absorption, and Lazer Grip for improved cornering performance.

(PRESS RELEASE) HANOVER, 10-Mar-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Continental has expanded its high-performance Grand Prix 5000 road tire lineup with two new size options designed to meet evolving demands from modern cyclists. The additions include the Grand Prix 5000 S TR in a new 35mm width and the Grand Prix 5000 TT TR in a new 30mm width, offering riders improved comfort, control, and performance across a wider range of road conditions.

The Grand Prix 5000 series has long been recognized as a benchmark in road cycling tires, combining speed, durability, and grip. With the latest size expansions, Continental aims to adapt the range to current cycling trends, particularly the growing preference for higher-volume tires that allow lower air pressures while maintaining performance.

The GP5000 S TR, known as the versatile all-rounder in the lineup, now includes a 35mm option designed to enhance comfort and adaptability across varied terrain. The wider tire allows riders to run lower pressures, which helps reduce vibrations from rough road surfaces while maintaining strong rolling performance and puncture protection. This configuration is particularly suited to endurance riding and multi-surface road conditions where comfort and speed are equally important.

Dedicated to speed, the TT TR is now available in the 30mm width.

Meanwhile, the Grand Prix 5000 TT TR—engineered specifically for maximum speed—has been introduced in a 30mm width. This wider format increases the tire’s contact area with the road, improving stability and grip during high-speed cornering. The larger footprint provides riders with greater confidence when navigating technical sections while maintaining efficiency during long, fast efforts.

The TT TR remains the lightest and fastest tire within the GP5000 lineup. Its construction features a specialized two-ply casing designed to minimize rolling resistance while keeping weight low. The 30mm version weighs approximately 280 grams.

Hannah Ferle, Road Product Manager at Continental Tires, explained that the new sizes reflect changing preferences among cyclists. Increasingly, riders are choosing wider tires not only for improved comfort but also for performance advantages such as reduced rolling resistance, enhanced vibration damping, and a larger contact patch for better traction.

She noted that the introduction of the 35mm GP5000 S TR and the 30mm GP5000 TT TR demonstrates that riders no longer need to choose between comfort and speed. Instead, the new options allow cyclists to fine-tune tire pressure and grip depending on the demands of their ride.

The wider tire offers a larger surface area for increased stability and adhesion when cornering at speed.

Both tires incorporate Continental’s established road-cycling technologies. These include the BlackChili Compound, which optimizes the balance between grip and rolling resistance; the Vectran Breaker layer, which provides puncture protection; Active Comfort technology to absorb road vibrations; and Lazer Grip, which improves traction and control while cornering.

The new GP5000 S TR 35mm version weighs approximately 380 grams and is designed for riders seeking a balance of speed, durability, and comfort on longer performance-focused rides. The GP5000 TT TR 30mm version focuses on maximum efficiency and high-speed performance, offering enhanced adhesion and stability for competitive or time-trial style riding.

With the addition of these new sizes, Continental continues to expand the versatility of the Grand Prix 5000 range, offering cyclists more options to tailor their equipment to different road conditions and riding styles.
