CharterWay’s Mercedes-Benz Arocs Fleet Ensures Reliable Winter Logistics for Major Sporting Event

Mercedes Benz Arocs in Snow Operations at the 2026 Biathlon World Cup in Oberhof

(IN BRIEF) Mercedes-Benz Arocs dump trucks from the CharterWay rental fleet were deployed at the Biathlon World Cup in Oberhof in January 2026 to manage snow removal and maintain safe access routes for athletes, officials, and spectators under challenging winter conditions. Around 300 athletes from 27 nations competed, requiring continuous logistical support to relocate snow, clear transport corridors, and keep service areas operational, with the trucks remaining in use even after the main event for student and youth competitions. The Arocs proved well suited for heavy-duty winter operations thanks to its robust design, high-traction drivetrains, and off-road capabilities, particularly in narrow and difficult terrain. Supplied through Daimler Truck Financial Services’ CharterWay service, the vehicles formed part of a broader fleet that includes both conventional and battery-electric trucks, reinforcing CharterWay’s positioning as a Truck-as-a-Service provider.

(PRESS RELEASE) OBERHOF/LEINFELDEN-ECHTERDINGEN, 5-Feb-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — When the Biathlon World Cup took place at the Arena am Rennsteig in Oberhof, Thuringia, in January 2026, Mercedes-Benz trucks played a crucial behind-the-scenes role in ensuring that the event could run smoothly despite demanding winter conditions. A fleet of Mercedes-Benz Arocs dump trucks from the CharterWay rental service was deployed to manage snow clearance and maintain safe, accessible routes throughout the venue and surrounding areas. Even after the official competitions concluded, the vehicles have continued to support ongoing student and youth biathlon events at the site.

Around three hundred athletes from twenty-seven countries competed in Oberhof, making the event a major international sporting occasion. Throughout the World Cup and in the days that followed, the operational challenge involved relocating large volumes of snow, transporting excess quantities away from the arena, and keeping all transport corridors, service zones, and athlete access routes open and secure. These tasks were often carried out in difficult weather conditions, requiring reliable and high-performance equipment.

The Mercedes-Benz Arocs is specifically designed for heavy-duty off-road and winter operations, making it well suited for such large-scale sporting events. Its robust chassis, powerful drivetrains, and flexible configuration options provide stability and durability in challenging environments. High-traction drive systems, differential locks, and specialized off-road components enable the vehicles to operate safely on snow-covered and icy terrain, as well as on steep or uneven surfaces.

The Arocs proved particularly effective in confined and complex areas, such as narrow access roads, forest tracks, and the stadium perimeter. Its precise steering, strong maneuverability, and ergonomically designed cab allowed drivers to work efficiently during extended shifts, ensuring continuous support for event logistics.

The vehicles used in Oberhof were supplied through Mercedes-Benz CharterWay, a rental service operated by Daimler Truck Financial Services. CharterWay manages a nationwide fleet of approximately 6,000 commercial vehicles in Germany, offering flexible rental solutions ranging from short-term use to long-term leasing arrangements. In addition to conventional diesel trucks, the portfolio includes around 150 battery-electric vehicles, with further expansion underway, including models such as the eActros 600. This development supports CharterWay’s broader strategy to position itself as an integrated “Truck-as-a-Service” provider.

The Biathlon World Cup in Oberhof was organised in collaboration with Oberhofer Sport und Event GmbH (OSE), which coordinated the deployment of the Arocs vehicles on site. With thousands of spectators attending in person and extensive international television coverage, the event represented a significant logistical operation, where reliable vehicle support was essential to its success.
