(IN BRIEF) Bilfinger has been selected as part of a consortium to deliver key fabrication, assembly, and installation services for bp’s new 100-megawatt green hydrogen electrolyzer in Lingen, Germany, a facility expected to become bp’s largest of its kind and its first fully owned and operated green hydrogen plant. Once operational in 2027, the site is projected to produce up to 11,000 tons of green hydrogen annually using renewable electricity, supplying both industrial customers via the hydrogen core network and a neighboring refinery for lower-emission fuel production. Bilfinger’s responsibilities include prefabricating and installing piping and plant components, providing thermal and cold insulation, and installing HVAC systems, with more than 200 specialists expected on site at peak periods. The project underscores Bilfinger’s growing role in Germany’s hydrogen infrastructure and aligns with its strategic focus on supporting customers in achieving greater efficiency and sustainability, while also reinforcing Lingen’s position as an emerging hydrogen center.

(PRESS RELEASE) LINGEN, Germany, 5-Feb-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Bilfinger has secured a major role in the construction of bp’s new large-scale green hydrogen facility in Lingen, Germany, reinforcing its position as a key industrial partner in the country’s emerging hydrogen economy. As part of a consortium, the engineering and services specialist will be responsible for a broad scope of fabrication, assembly, and installation activities for the electrolyzer plant, which is set to become bp’s most significant green hydrogen project to date and its first fully company-owned and operated facility of this kind.

Designed with a capacity of 100 megawatts, the installation is projected to produce as much as 11,000 tons of green hydrogen per year once it reaches full operational status, which is anticipated in 2027. The facility will be powered exclusively by renewable electricity, ensuring that the hydrogen generated meets green production standards. The output is expected to supply industrial users through integration with the developing hydrogen core network while also supporting decarbonization efforts at a nearby refinery, where it could be used to manufacture lower-emission fuels.

Under the terms of its assignment, Bilfinger will handle the prefabrication, on-site assembly, and installation of critical piping systems and plant components, along with thermal and cryogenic insulation work and the setup of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. At peak construction phases, more than 200 Bilfinger specialists are expected to be deployed on site, underscoring the scale and complexity of the undertaking.

Commenting on the project, Bilfinger Group CEO Thomas Schulz stated that the company is pleased to support bp in advancing its hydrogen ambitions and that the partnership marks an important step in strengthening Germany’s hydrogen infrastructure. He added that the collaboration aligns closely with Bilfinger’s strategic objective of helping customers improve both efficiency and sustainability across their operations.

Beyond this project, Bilfinger is also engaged in additional initiatives that contribute to the broader development of Lingen as a prominent hydrogen hub within Germany, further demonstrating its commitment to the region’s energy transition.
