(PRESS RELEASE) BILBAO, 11-Sep-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — BBVA has achieved a historic milestone by securing eighth place in Time magazine’s World’s Best Companies 2025 ranking, climbing 37 positions from its 2024 standing. The bank, which was ranked 45th last year, now sits within the global top ten and has been recognized as the top performer in Spain’s banking sector.

The annual ranking, produced by Time in partnership with Statista, evaluates 1,000 multinational companies on three key pillars: employee satisfaction, financial performance, and progress in sustainability. In the Banking and Financial Services category, BBVA emerged as the leading institution in Spain and was ranked second worldwide out of 140 financial institutions reviewed.

“This recognition reflects the commitment and talent of everyone at BBVA. Being among the world’s top ten companies is a testament to the positive impact we can generate when we put people at the center and drive innovation and sustainability—two of our strategic priorities—across everything we do,” stated Paul G. Tobin, Global Head of Talent & Culture at BBVA.

The recognition comes on the heels of several prestigious awards. In 2025, Global Finance named BBVA the World’s Best Corporate Bank. The institution has also received Top Employer certification for its workplace practices and was honored with The Banker’s Technology Award for best use of technology globally. These achievements underscore BBVA’s consistent performance across innovation, employee engagement, and sustainable practices.

Methodology of the ranking
The World’s Best Companies ranking applies a structured approach across three categories, each with equal weighting:

  • Employee satisfaction: Derived from anonymous surveys of nearly 200,000 employees across 50+ countries, assessing corporate reputation, workplace culture, equality, compensation, and conditions.
  • Financial performance: Based on Statista’s revenue growth data for 2022–2024, with inclusion limited to companies generating over $100 million in revenue and demonstrating positive growth over three years.
  • Sustainability transparency: Assessed through ESG criteria, including carbon intensity, female representation in leadership, human rights policies, compliance, and anti-corruption measures.

By excelling across these dimensions, BBVA has reinforced its reputation as a global leader in banking while continuing to align its strategy with innovation and sustainable growth.
