BASF Introduces Innovative Pluriol® A 2400 I for Enhanced Superplasticizers in Concrete Admixtures Across Europe

(IN BRIEF) BASF Industrial Formulators has unveiled Pluriol® A 2400 I, a new product in its reactive polyethylene glycol (iPEG) portfolio, aimed at enhancing polycarboxylate ethers (PCE) in the European construction industry. The innovative Pluriol® A 2400 I is a key raw material for third-generation superplasticizers, offering significant improvements in flow characteristics and durability of concrete. BASF’s backward-integrated manufacturing process ensures reliable delivery and raw material independence, contributing to reduced CO2 emissions through local sourcing. This new iPEG product expands BASF’s offering, supporting a wide range of applications in the construction industry, including dispersants for inorganic pigments.

(PRESS RELEASE) LUDWIGSHAFEN, 14-May-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — BASF Industrial Formulators has announced the launch of Pluriol® A 2400 I, a new product in its reactive polyethylene glycol (PEG) portfolio, specifically designed for polycarboxylate ethers (PCE) in the European construction industry. Pluriol® A 2400 I is a high-performance isoprenol-PEG (iPEG) that will enhance the development of third-generation superplasticizers, offering improved flow characteristics and durability, crucial properties for the concrete industry.

As the only European supplier of this innovative material, BASF provides a reliable delivery chain and ensures raw material independence thanks to a backward-integrated manufacturing process. This approach not only secures consistent availability for customers but also contributes to a reduction in CO2 emissions by sourcing locally.

Jordi Tormo, Vice President of Business Management Industrial Formulators at BASF, commented, “With the introduction of Pluriol® A 2400 I, we are strengthening our commitment to the construction industry by offering high-performance solutions that contribute to sustainability goals. Our backward integration ensures reliable supply, and we are proud to play our part in reducing CO2 emissions through local sourcing.”

In the construction industry, iPEGs have a broad range of applications. Pluriol® A 2400 I, in particular, is primarily used as a raw material in the formulation of superplasticizers and flow agents for concrete admixtures, improving the fluidity and durability of concrete. Beyond its role in concrete, iPEGs like Pluriol® A 2400 I are also key ingredients in the production of dispersants for inorganic pigments, expanding their utility in various industrial formulations.

This new product offering marks a significant step in BASF’s ongoing commitment to provide the construction sector with advanced, sustainable solutions that meet the increasing demand for high-quality materials.
