(PRESS RELEASE) MADRID, 11-MAR-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — In a continued commitment to fostering sustainable development and equal opportunity, Banco Santander has invested EUR 166 million in 2024 to advance initiatives in education, employability, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and social support across its operating regions. This substantial outlay, made under the bank’s sustainability strategy, directly benefits five million people and reinforces Santander’s longstanding dedication to helping both individuals and businesses thrive.

The bank allocated EUR 104 million to strengthen higher education, boost employability through targeted training, and nurture entrepreneurial endeavors. With nearly 30 years of expertise in these sectors, Santander has partnered with over 1,100 universities, institutions, and organizations, investing more than EUR 2.4 billion to date. Among its flagship initiatives are scholarship programs and grants designed to support university students and researchers, as well as resources aimed at enhancing digitalization and development opportunities for academic institutions. Additionally, programs like Santander Open Academy, Universia, and Fundación Universia have been instrumental in equipping individuals with essential job skills and bolstering early career prospects. Furthermore, Santander X supports SMEs, startups, scaleups, and other entrepreneurial projects by providing extensive non-financial resources to drive business transformation.

Complementing these efforts, the bank dedicated over EUR 62 million to programs that focus on financial education, social action, and cultural initiatives. Santander has forged partnerships with NGOs, humanitarian organizations, and its own foundations in Argentina, Mexico, Poland, Portugal, Spain, the UK, and the US to support vulnerable groups and enhance financial literacy. These efforts empower people by equipping them with the knowledge and tools needed to navigate personal finance, understand products and risks, and ultimately secure their financial well-being.

In response to recent humanitarian crises, Santander also provided crucial support to communities affected by flash floods in Valencia (Spain), forest fires in Valparaíso (Chile), floods in Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil), and earthquakes in China’s Gansu and Qinghai provinces.
