Arglass Partners with Dürr to Pioneer Sustainable Glass Production in the U.S. with Innovative Air Purification Technology

(IN BRIEF) Arglass has partnered with Dürr to enhance sustainability at its Valdosta, Georgia facility by installing an advanced exhaust air purification system in its new glass melting furnace. The Dürr candle filter system, being used for the first time in U.S. glass manufacturing, controls particulate matter and sulfur oxides emissions, aligning with Arglass’s commitment to environmental protection. The system’s modular design allows for maintenance without disrupting production, ensuring continuous, efficient operations. This initiative marks a significant step in pioneering sustainable glass production in the U.S.

(PRESS RELEASE) BIETIGHEIM-BISSINGEN, 29-Aug-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Arglass, a leading glass container manufacturer, has taken a significant step towards enhancing sustainability by partnering with environmental technology expert Dürr to equip its new melting furnace with an innovative exhaust air purification system. Located at Arglass’s Valdosta, Georgia facility, the newly installed furnace, powered by a hybrid gas, electric, and oxy-fuel system, will melt 495 metric tons of glass daily, supported by a solar power installation.

Dürr’s candle filter system, being deployed for the first time in the U.S. glass manufacturing sector, is at the heart of this initiative. This 2-in-1 technology effectively controls particulate matter and sulfur oxides emissions, crucial for meeting stringent environmental standards. The system utilizes ceramic fiber candle filters that withstand high temperatures, ensuring that the exhaust air is purified to meet clean gas standards before being released.

Arglass Chairman and CEO, José de Diego Arozamena, expressed pride in leading the industry toward greater sustainability, stating, “Glass remains the most sustainable, recyclable, and healthy packaging material. The exhaust air purification system from Dürr is a significant contributor to our environmental protection efforts.”

Dürr also offers an advanced 3-in-1 catalytic candle filter system capable of removing nitrogen oxides (NOx) in addition to particulate matter and sulfur oxides. This system, designed for industrial processes requiring high-temperature filtration, effectively eliminates up to 90% of pollutants from exhaust air.

The modular design of Dürr’s system allows for seamless maintenance without disrupting the glass production process. With continuous on-site support and a dedicated engineering team, Dürr ensures the long-term efficiency and sustainability of Arglass’s operations.
