(IN BRIEF) APM Terminals Barcelona and APM Terminals Valencia have joined the Portchain Connect Network, offering a global platform to streamline berth coordination. This partnership will reduce manual communication, improve berth-plan accuracy, and support faster, more reliable alignment for shipping lines. Benefits include reduced waiting times, fuel savings, and lower CO2 emissions, enhancing the efficiency and sustainability of operations.

(PRESS RELEASE) THE HAGUE, 3-Jun-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — APM Terminals Barcelona and APM Terminals Valencia have become part of the Portchain Connect Network, a global platform for berth alignment used by over 150 terminals worldwide. This collaboration allows both Spanish ports to provide their shipping line customers with more reliable and timely updates by securely sharing schedule data through digital handshakes. With a unified and streamlined channel for berth coordination, both terminals aim to improve operational efficiency and enhance customer service.

For the terminals, integrating Portchain Connect simplifies the berth alignment process, reducing manual communication and increasing berth plan accuracy. This leads to better berth utilization and more efficient operations for terminal planners.

For the carrier customers, the enhanced alignment process supports Just-in-Time port calls, reducing waiting times by approximately two hours per port call. This improvement contributes to fuel savings of up to 10 percent on certain voyages, further lowering CO2 emissions and advancing sustainability goals in the maritime industry.

Julián Fernández, Managing Director of APM Terminals Spanish Gateways, commented, “Bringing APM Terminals Barcelona and Valencia onto Portchain Connect provides our customers with a single, reliable view of berth windows at both terminals. This integration leads to smoother operations, greater berth efficiency, and a more predictable and sustainable supply chain for shipping lines.”

Thor Thorup, Chief Commercial Officer and Co-Founder of Portchain, added, “By adding APM Terminals Barcelona and Valencia to our Portchain Connect Network, we’re strengthening our presence in two vital Mediterranean hubs. Together, we’re enhancing berth efficiency and reducing emissions for the carriers operating at these key terminals.”
