Amazon Becomes First to Use SAF at Ontario Airport in 7,500 Tonne Neste Supply Deal

(IN BRIEF) Neste will deliver 7,500 tonnes of neat SAF to Amazon Air at San Francisco and Ontario International Airports through 2025, marking Amazon’s first SAF usage at Ontario. The agreement supports Amazon’s 2040 net-zero ambition and leverages Neste’s existing pipeline supply to San Francisco and Diesel Direct truck deliveries—using Neste Renewable Diesel—to Ontario. Neste MY SAF cuts life-cycle emissions by up to 80 percent compared to fossil jet fuel, is made from 100 percent waste and residue feedstocks, and seamlessly blends (up to 50 percent) with conventional fuel. Neste’s global SAF capacity of 1.5 million tonnes per year will expand to 2.2 million tonnes by 2027.

(PRESS RELEASE) ESPOO, 18-Jun-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Neste has signed a deal with Amazon to supply 7,500 metric tons (approx. 2.5 million gallons) of neat Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel™ (SAF) for Amazon Air cargo flights operating out of San Francisco International Airport and Ontario International Airport in California through the end of 2025. With this purchase, Amazon becomes the first company to deploy SAF at Ontario International—one of the top ten cargo airports in the United States.

Aligned with Amazon’s goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions across its operations by 2040, the California SAF agreement builds on a four-year collaboration that began when Neste delivered SAF to Amazon at Cologne Bonn Airport in 2021. Neste’s SAF is blended onsite with conventional jet fuel: at San Francisco International via existing pipeline infrastructure and at Ontario International via Diesel Direct trucks fueled by Neste Renewable Diesel—thereby cutting GHG emissions from both flight and road transport.

“We’re proud to extend our West Coast SAF supply chain to serve Amazon Air at these strategic California gateways,” said Carl Nyberg, Senior Vice President, Commercial, Renewable Products at Neste. “By transporting SAF in trucks powered by renewable diesel, we’re demonstrating integrated solutions that drive GHG reductions across multiple transport modes.”
