Backed by an investment exceeding one million rand, the program reflects Alstom’s broader commitment to sustainable social impact in the communities surrounding its operations. Through its Alstom Ubunye manufacturing facility in Gauteng, the company combines industrial development with targeted social responsibility initiatives that support skills development, inclusion, and long-term economic progress in the region.

(PRESS RELEASE) SAINT-OUEN-SUR-SEINE, 16-Feb-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Alstom has reinforced its commitment to education as a central element of its Community Investment Policy through the donation of 818 school uniforms to learners attending three primary schools in the townships of Nigel and Duduza, South Africa. The initiative is designed to support vulnerable families, foster inclusive classroom environments, and enable students to concentrate fully on their studies without the burden of financial hardship.

The uniforms were distributed to learners from Grade R through Grade 7 at Alra Park Primary and Happiness Primary in Nigel, as well as Sibonisiwe Primary in Duduza. Many of the children enrolled at these schools come from households that rely primarily on government assistance, making the cost of school attire a significant challenge at the beginning of each academic year.

Alstom representatives noted that providing uniforms is about more than meeting a practical need; it also strengthens learners’ confidence and sense of belonging, both of which are essential to educational success. The donation was welcomed by students and educators alike, who highlighted its positive effect on equality within the classroom and its role in encouraging sustained academic engagement.

Thabiso Komako, CEO of Alstom Ubunye, explained that the company invested more than one million rand in the program as part of a long-term vision to create meaningful and sustainable impact in surrounding communities. He emphasized that a school uniform can help restore dignity, remove visible economic barriers among learners, and contribute to shaping future generations.

Corporate social responsibility remains deeply embedded in Alstom’s operations in Gauteng and across South Africa, where the company aligns its social initiatives with its broader mission of delivering forward-looking rail solutions while improving the social and economic outlook of communities located near its facilities.
