(PRESS RELEASE) MÁTRANOVÁK, 23-Jan-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Alstom has opened a new welding and fitter training centre at its Mátranovák site in Hungary, reinforcing its long-term commitment to developing a skilled workforce capable of supporting global manufacturing demand for railway bogie frames. The investment strengthens Alstom’s ability to train new specialists while further upskilling existing employees, ensuring the site continues to meet high standards of quality, safety, and delivery performance for customers worldwide.

The Mátranovák facility is Alstom’s most important production site for railway bogie frames, a critical safety component of trains. By expanding its training capabilities, the company aims to secure a stable pipeline of qualified welders and fitters while embedding its “Right First Time!” manufacturing approach across the workforce. This focus is designed to improve production efficiency, reduce rework, and enhance customer satisfaction, while also supporting long-term job security at the site.

The new training centre is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities that closely replicate real production conditions, including ten welding stations, a cutting machine, two console cranes, and production-grade clamps and rotators. This environment enables trainees to transition quickly and smoothly from training into active production roles. Alongside hands-on instruction, the centre includes dedicated classroom space for theoretical learning, as well as supporting facilities such as changing rooms and communal areas.

Training programmes typically run for eight to twelve weeks and combine practical welding instruction with foundational locksmithing skills and in-depth training on the safe and correct use of tools and machinery found on the production line. The centre will be used both to onboard new employees and to maintain and enhance the skills of Alstom’s existing workforce, which currently includes more than 400 welders and fitters in Mátranovák.

The initiative also strengthens Alstom’s ties with regional education providers. The company is accredited as a dual training centre and is authorised to provide practical training in multiple professions, extending beyond steel-related roles to include logistics training and university internships in administrative and technical fields. Through this expanded cooperation, Alstom aims to support regional workforce development while ensuring its own future skills needs are met.
