(PRESS RELEASE) SAINT-OUEN-SUR-SEINE, 3-Jun-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Alstom, a global leader in smart and sustainable mobility, celebrates the commencement of revenue service for the Indore Metro, featuring its world-class Movia metro trains equipped with the latest-generation Communications Based Train Control (CBTC) signalling system. The Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the Super Priority Corridor with Alstom-built trains on 31 May, followed by the launch of revenue services on 1 June 2025, marking a significant milestone in urban transportation for the city of Indore.

Alstom has designed and manufactured these advanced metro trains at its state-of-the-art facility in Savli, Gujarat, under India’s ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives. The first trainset was delivered in record time—just 14.5 months from the Notice to Proceed (NTP)—and handed over to Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL) in August 2023. These modern, lightweight trains are designed to operate at speeds of up to 80 km/h across a 31.5 km metro line with 29 stations. With a seating capacity of 50 passengers and space for 300 standing passengers, the Indore Metro is set to serve over six million residents, offering a sustainable and efficient solution to the city’s mass transit needs.

As part of a combined order for both Indore and Bhopal metro projects, Alstom’s scope of work includes designing, manufacturing, supplying, installing, testing, and commissioning 52 standard gauge Movia metro passenger trainsets, each with three cars. Additionally, Alstom will provide 15 years of comprehensive FlexCare Perform maintenance services to ensure maximum fleet availability and reliability. The trains will operate with the latest CBTC signalling system, along with advanced train control and telecommunication systems, which will also be maintained for seven years.

Olivier Loison, Managing Director of Alstom India, commented, “We are thrilled to see the people of Indore experience world-class rail solutions with the commencement of the Indore metro’s revenue service. Alstom’s signalling and rolling stock solutions will not only ensure safe, reliable, efficient, and affordable mass transit, but they will also contribute significantly to the city’s infrastructure modernization.”

The Movia trains, part of Alstom’s renowned Metropolis metro solutions, offer the latest technological innovations, including eco-designed air-conditioned cars that eliminate hazardous substances. Powered by energy-efficient traction systems with regenerative braking, these trains are a sustainable alternative to other modes of transport, reducing energy consumption. Features such as ambient lighting, smart lighting solutions, and an automatic track inspection system further enhance energy efficiency and operational performance.

In terms of safety, the trains are equipped with continuous CCTV surveillance, an emergency communication system, and intelligent CCTV features, including unattended object detection and passenger counting for emergency evacuations. Dedicated spaces for passengers with reduced mobility ensure inclusivity for all commuters.

Alstom’s expertise in CBTC and metro solutions is globally recognized, with over 30 years of experience and 190 metro lines in 32 countries. The Urbalis Forward system implemented in Indore will help maximize throughput, meet passenger demand, and ensure a seamless travel experience for metro passengers.
