Alstom and Key Model World Debut Pete Waterman’s “Making Tracks 3” at Derby’s Greatest Gathering

(IN BRIEF) Alstom and Key Model World are collaborating on the Model Railway Village at The Greatest Gathering, Derby’s three-day railway festival (1–3 August 2025). Highlights include Pete Waterman’s “Making Tracks 3” 64 ft OO-gauge Milton Keynes Central layout and other distinguished miniature displays. The event at Litchurch Lane Works—home to over 100 historic and modern trains—also features up to 20 trade stands and the debut of a new Derby Works layout by Key Model World using PJM Models’ laser-cut kits. The festival forms part of Railway 200’s bicentennial celebrations and will open the factory site to the public for the first time in nearly five decades.

(PRESS RELEASE) HELSINKI, 15-Jul-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Alstom has joined forces with Key Model World to present the Model Railway Village at The Greatest Gathering, a three-day rail festival in Derby next month. Central to this attraction is Pete Waterman OBE DL’s “Making Tracks 3” layout—a 64 ft OO-gauge replica of Milton Keynes Central station—alongside other expert builds such as Mick Bryan’s Deadmans Lane, Eric French’s London Underground Harefield Road, Key Model World’s Twelve Trees Junction, and Mark Pearson’s Welby Lane RTC.

The sold-out charity event, hosted at Alstom’s historic Litchurch Lane Works from 1–3 August 2025, will be the world’s largest showcase of heritage and modern rolling stock. It marks the climax of Railway 200, a year-long commemoration of the Stockton & Darlington Railway’s bicentenary. Alongside the miniature layouts, up to 20 trade stands will feature products from Hornby, Bachmann, Accurascale, Heljan, Revolution Trains, and Cavalex Models, as well as a selection of new and secondhand model railway equipment.

In celebration of the collaboration, Key Model World will unveil an OO-gauge layout of a section of Derby Litchurch Lane Works, built using new laser-cut modular kits by PJM Models. These kits will be available for purchase at the event and showcased in a build series in Hornby Magazine (July–September 2025) and in video features on Key Model World’s channels.
