Alfa Laval Joins One Water Consortium to Lead Europe’s Water Innovation Community Bid

(IN BRIEF) Alfa Laval has joined the One Water consortium as a core partner to bid for the EIT’s new Water Knowledge & Innovation Community. The consortium will address water scarcity, ecosystem degradation, and the development of a circular blue economy by commercialising Europe’s water innovations. Alfa Laval brings private-sector leadership in water stewardship and maritime solutions, with ten company experts contributing to the bid due on 17 June 2025. The EIT will select the winning consortium by the end of 2025. Eline Suijlen of Alfa Laval emphasised the consortium’s potential to turn patented concepts into market-ready products that deliver environmental and social benefits.

(PRESS RELEASE) LUND, 16-Jun-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Alfa Laval is pleased to announce its entry into the One Water consortium as a core partner, joining forces to tackle urgent water challenges across Europe and beyond. The consortium is competing to lead the European Institute of Innovation and Technology’s (EIT) newest Knowledge & Innovation Community (KIC) dedicated to water. This initiative will address three critical areas: mitigating scarcity, droughts, and floods; restoring marine and freshwater ecosystems; and fostering a circular, sustainable blue economy.

As a member of the One Water consortium, Alfa Laval will contribute its extensive private-sector expertise in corporate water stewardship and maritime water technologies. Ten specialists from Alfa Laval’s global operations have already shaped the consortium’s bid, which unites universities, research centres, and industry leaders under a shared mission: to move Europe’s strong conceptual innovations and patents into market-ready solutions that have tangible environmental and social impact. The formal application for the Water KIC is due on 17 June 2025.

“The One Water consortium aligns seamlessly with our commitment to driving positive, real-world outcomes,” said Eline Suijlen, Water Industry Manager in Alfa Laval’s Food & Water Division. “Europe excels at ideation and patenting, but we must do more to commercialize breakthroughs. The KIC framework is designed to bridge that gap. Alfa Laval is ready to bring proven technologies and operational know-how to ensure innovative ideas become sustainable businesses.”

The EIT, an EU body fostering research and innovation, will select the successful Water KIC consortium in the third quarter of 2025, with the final announcement expected by year-end. If chosen, the Water KIC will join nine existing communities focused on digitalisation, energy, food, health, and other strategic themes.
