ALAT Cargo Airport to Become Key Multimodal Hub in Eurasia with Advanced Indra Air Navigation Systems

(IN BRIEF) A strategic agreement was signed at Passenger Terminal Expo 2025 between CJSC “Azerbaijan Airlines” and Indra to equip the new ALAT Cargo Airport in the Alat Free Economic Zone with advanced air navigation systems. This initiative is an essential component of Azerbaijan’s national strategy to develop the Alat FEZ into a leading multimodal logistics center along the Middle Corridor, enhancing its role as a transit hub between Europe and Asia. The new cargo facility, located adjacent to the ALAT Sea Port of Baku and interconnected with railway and highway networks, will benefit from Indra’s state-of-the-art solutions designed to improve operational efficiency, flight safety, and round-the-clock cargo operations. Additionally, the project emphasizes sustainability, with eco-friendly construction and renewable energy integration planned from the outset. The newly formed ALAT Aeronavigation Service, under the auspices of AZAL CJSC’s Azeraeronavigation, will ensure safe and efficient air traffic management tailored to the airport’s operations. Key executives from both organizations highlighted the transformative potential of this partnership to boost Azerbaijan’s logistics capabilities and support broader airspace digitalization initiatives in the region.

(PRESS RELEASE) MADRID, 11-Apr-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — The ALAT Cargo Airport is poised to become a vital multimodal logistics hub along the Middle Corridor, reinforcing Azerbaijan’s status as a major transit link between Europe and Asia. In a strategic partnership announced during the Passenger Terminal Expo 2025 in Madrid, CJSC “Azerbaijan Airlines” and Indra have agreed on equipping the new airport located in the Alat Free Economic Zone with cutting-edge air navigation systems.

This initiative aligns with Azerbaijan’s national strategy to transform the Alat FEZ into one of Eurasia’s premier multimodal logistics centers. Supported by the Government of Azerbaijan and the Silk Way Group, the new cargo airport will occupy a strategic position near the ALAT Sea Port of Baku and is directly connected to the nation’s railway and highway networks, ensuring seamless cargo movement across sea, land, and air.

Through its tailored technology solution package, Indra will deliver state-of-the-art air navigation systems designed to improve operational efficiency, guarantee flight safety, and support continuous cargo operations. With more than three decades of expertise in air traffic management and involvement in over 90% of the world’s countries, Indra is well placed to provide highly reliable, flexible, and scalable systems that meet modern airspace requirements.

The initiative will see the newly established ALAT Aeronavigation Service, managed by the Azeraeronavigation Air Traffic Department of AZAL CJSC, ensuring safe and efficient air traffic services tailored to the unique needs of the cargo airport. Sustainability is a core focus of the project, with eco-friendly construction techniques and renewable energy integration established from the start to position the facility as a benchmark in low-emission freight infrastructure.

Farhan Guliyev, adviser to the President of Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC, stated, “The implementation of intelligent, automated air navigation systems is one of the key conditions for the successful operation of modern cargo airports. Cooperation with a world leader such as Indra opens a new chapter in developing a high-tech, efficient, and safe infrastructure for the Alat FEZ Cargo Airport. I am confident that this partnership will significantly strengthen Azerbaijan’s position as a major logistics center in Eurasia.”

Ángel Escribano, Executive Chairman at Indra Group, added, “We are delighted to partner with AZAL on this strategic project, bringing our experience and cutting-edge air navigation technology. Indra is committed to contributing to increased operational efficiency, safety, and sustainability at one of the most ambitious logistics hubs in the region. We look forward to supporting Azerbaijan’s vision for the ALAT Free Economic Zone and promoting economic exchange between Europe and Asia.”

During the event, discussions also touched on expanding collaboration in airspace digitalization and implementing intelligent solutions across Azerbaijan’s aviation sector.
