Air Astana Group Confirms Major Airbus A320neo Family Aircraft Purchase to Support Long-Term Network Expansion

(IN BRIEF) Air Astana Group has committed to purchasing 25 Airbus A320neo Family aircraft in its largest direct aircraft order to date, consisting of five A320neo and twenty A321neo jets. The order marks two decades since the airline began operating Airbus A320 aircraft and supports the group’s ongoing strategy to expand and modernize its fleet. The aircraft will serve both Air Astana and FlyArystan, helping increase capacity while improving operational efficiency and environmental performance. The A320neo Family provides significant fuel savings and reduced emissions compared with previous aircraft generations, while the A321neo and A321LR models support longer routes with enhanced passenger comfort. The agreement also strengthens the long-term relationship between Air Astana and Airbus as aviation demand continues to grow in Central Asia and neighboring regions.

(PRESS RELEASE) TOULOUSE, 2-Mar-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Air Astana Group has finalized an order for 25 aircraft from the Airbus A320neo Family, representing the airline group’s largest direct acquisition of Airbus aircraft so far. The purchase includes five A320neo and twenty A321neo jets and coincides with the twentieth year since Air Astana first introduced an Airbus A320 into commercial service in 2006. Air Astana Group remains the leading airline operator in Central Asia and the Caucasus by both revenue and fleet scale.

Chief Executive Officer Peter Foster described the investment as an important step toward sustaining the airline’s long-term operational strength and service quality. He noted that the Airbus A320neo Family has consistently delivered reliable performance across Air Astana’s network. Foster pointed in particular to the A321LR variant, whose premium cabin layout enables the airline to operate long-distance narrow-body routes with a high level of passenger comfort and extended range capability. He expressed confidence that the incoming aircraft will help reinforce the group’s steady expansion while supporting improved efficiency and financial performance over the coming years.

The aircraft will be shared between the group’s full-service airline Air Astana and its low-cost carrier FlyArystan, forming a key part of a broader program to modernize and enlarge the fleet. Air Astana Group currently operates 59 aircraft from the Airbus A320 Family, making Airbus single-aisle aircraft the backbone of its operations.

Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Executive Vice President of Sales for Airbus Commercial Aircraft, welcomed the agreement and highlighted the continued demand for the A320neo Family in high-growth aviation markets. He noted that Airbus will continue working closely with Air Astana as the airline expands international connections from Kazakhstan and continues to strengthen its operational capabilities and passenger offering. The new agreement further extends a long-standing partnership between the two organizations.

Globally, the Airbus A320 Family has become the most successful single-aisle aircraft series, with more than 19,000 orders placed. The A321neo, the largest aircraft in the range, offers extended range and strong operational performance, while the entire A320neo Family delivers at least a 20 percent reduction in fuel consumption and carbon emissions compared with earlier aircraft generations. The design also provides a spacious single-aisle cabin that enhances passenger comfort.

All Airbus aircraft, including the A320neo Family, are currently certified to operate using up to 50 percent Sustainable Aviation Fuel. Airbus is working toward enabling its aircraft to operate with 100 percent Sustainable Aviation Fuel by the end of the decade.
