(PRESS RELEASE) AMSTERDAM, 5-Aug-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Adyen’s 2025 Hospitality and Travel Report uncovers a dramatic surge in the use of AI by travelers booking experiences this summer, with Boomers exhibiting the most pronounced growth—a 106 percent year-on-year increase—outpacing all other demographics worldwide.

The global study, based on a survey of 40,000 consumers across 27 countries, also finds that 71 percent of hospitality merchants struggle with fragmented payment infrastructures, hampering their ability to unify online and in-person transactions. To address this gap, Adyen has enhanced its platform to deliver seamless payments and embedded search-and-book capabilities directly within hospitality booking sites.

Key insights from the report include:

  • Cross-generational AI adoption: One-third of respondents (34 percent) now use AI tools to explore destinations—up 74 percent since 2024. While Gen Z (59 percent) and Millennials (48 percent) lead usage overall, Boomers (106 percent increase) and Gen X (91 percent increase) are the fastest-growing cohorts. Two-thirds of Boomers credit AI with cutting through social-media clutter to find travel inspiration.
  • Industry embrace of AI search and automation: Nearly half of hospitality operators (44 percent) anticipate that AI-powered search functions will redefine guest bookings, and 40 percent expect AI-driven personalization to transform service delivery.
  • Rising payment fraud concerns: Thirty-eight percent of accommodation providers report a rise in fraudulent payment attempts over the past year. Adyen’s Protect module, part of its AI-powered Uplift fraud solution, reduces manual risk rules by 86 percent on average, safeguarding genuine guests while minimizing friction.

“AI is no longer an experimental add-on—it’s central to how guests discover and book travel,” said Phil Crawford, Global Head of Hospitality at Adyen. “As AI reshapes guest expectations, we’re enabling businesses to integrate advanced search and frictionless payments, creating a unified end-to-end experience.”
