(IN BRIEF) BASF has launched AdBlue GE by BASF, a renewable electricity-based version of its diesel exhaust fluid designed to lower CO₂ emissions during production while delivering identical quality and performance to conventional AdBlue. Manufactured using power from the Hollandse Kust Zuid offshore wind farm and allocated via a mass balance approach, the product offers a drop-in solution requiring no technical changes for users. The market introduction begins in Switzerland in cooperation with Thommen Furler, with expansion to other European countries planned as BASF continues to broaden its sustainable product portfolio.

(PRESS RELEASE) LUDWIGSHAFEN, 19-Feb-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — BASF has launched AdBlue® GE (Green Electricity) by BASF, a new version of its diesel exhaust fluid produced entirely using electricity from renewable energy sources. The product marks an expansion of BASF’s AdBlue portfolio and is designed to lower the carbon footprint associated with manufacturing while maintaining the same performance characteristics as conventional AdBlue.

To manufacture AdBlue GE, BASF replaces all electricity required across the value chain with renewable power sourced from the Hollandse Kust Zuid offshore wind farm. The allocation of renewable energy is verified using a mass balance approach, enabling a measurable reduction in CO₂ emissions compared with traditional production methods.

Drop-In Solution with Identical Performance

AdBlue GE by BASF is fully compatible with existing diesel vehicle systems and can be used without any technical modifications. The product delivers the same high purity and operational reliability as standard AdBlue, ensuring consistent engine performance while effectively reducing nitrogen oxide emissions and limiting soot formation.

The new offering allows customers to adopt a more sustainable option without changing infrastructure or operational processes, supporting emissions reduction goals in transportation and logistics applications.

Market Introduction Begins in Switzerland

BASF is introducing the product in Switzerland in partnership with its long-standing distribution partner Thommen Furler. In addition to renewable-powered production, transportation by rail further reduces emissions across the supply chain, contributing to an overall lower environmental impact.

Following the initial launch, BASF plans to expand availability gradually into additional European markets as part of its broader sustainability and portfolio development strategy.

Supporting the Transition to Lower-Carbon Mobility

The introduction of AdBlue GE reflects BASF’s ongoing efforts to integrate renewable energy into chemical production and to provide solutions that help customers reduce indirect emissions while maintaining operational efficiency. By combining proven emissions-reduction technology with greener manufacturing processes, the company aims to contribute to more sustainable mobility and industrial value chains.
