Mitteldeutsche Airport Holding: Airports Continue to Be Job Generators for Central Germany

Jobs growth once again at Leipzig/Halle and Dresden Airports – More than 8,000 people work at the Central German airport sites

22-2-2013 — /europawire.eu/ — Leipzig/Halle und Dresden, the two airport sites belonging to the Mitteldeutsche Airport Holding, were once again able to register strong growth in the numbers of people employed there in 2010. 8,063 people worked at the airport companies and the firms, administrative offices and public authorities based at the sites, an increase of 9 percent over the figures for the previous year. The companies belonging to the Mitteldeutsche Airport Holding directly employed 1,018 people.
The total number of people in employment at the two business locations has grown by an average figure of 9.7 percent per annum since 2000.

The 133 companies with 5,106 employees at Leipzig/Halle Airport recorded a strong increase of 14.4 percent. The companies within the Mitteldeutsche Airport Holding employed 666 people, a rise of 6.2 percent over the 2009 figures.

2,957 people were employed at the Dresden International Airport site at the end of the year. This represents a slight increase of 0.8 percent over the previous year and the Mitteldeutsche Airport Holding companies registered a slight rise of 0.3 percent to 352 people. The number of companies at the business site rose by 1.5 percent to a figure of 133.

The logistics sector in particular is continuing to drive this growth process forwards in a dynamic way and the whole of Central Germany is benefiting from this,” said Markus Kopp, CEO of Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG.

Mitteldeutsche Airport Holding is the parent brand of Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG, a company operated by the public sector. The Group has three subsidiaries: Leipzig/Halle Airport, Dresden International Airport and PortGround.

The Group handled 97,418 aircraft movements, 4.2 million passengers and 663,402 tonnes of freight during 2010.
