MYTILINEOS launches third annual “ENGINEERS IN ACTION” programme

ATHENS, 13-Dec-2017 — /EuropaWire/ — The launch of the programme “ENGINEERS IN ACTION” for a third consecutive year, demonstrates once again the firm commitment of MYTILINEOS to combat youth unemployment and to curb brain drain; the alarming phenomenon of young, qualified scientists leaving to work abroad.

By participating in a 12-month Graduate programme, young engineers will be able to work in an actual workplace, in the facilities of Aluminium of Greece, the Metallurgy Business Unit of MYTILINEOS.

The programme’s objective is to offer young, talented engineers the opportunity to gain work experience and expertise, working in a challenging environment, in real conditions, and participating in complex and demanding projects, in one of Europe’s largest and most competitive industrial plants.

Candidates should hold a graduate studies diploma from Polytechnics / Schools of Engineering in Greece or abroad and, recognised by the Hellenic National Academic Recognition Information Centre (NARIC), in Architecture or in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical and Mining/Metallurgical Engineering. Candidates should be fluent in Greek and English and have good computer skills. A recognised postgraduate degree is desirable. Candidates with limited
work experience will also be included in the screening process.

As in the programme’s previous cycles, the Metallurgy Business Unit of MYTILINEOS offers the chance of free accommodation at Aspra Spitia, Viotia, for the entire duration of their Graduate Programme.

The programme “ENGINEERS IN ACTION” is a part of the commitments undertaken by MYTILINEOS as initiator of the programme GEFYRA (Greek Enterprises for Youth Reinforcement Acceleration), coordinated by the Greek Network for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR Hellas, (https://www.csrhellas.net/initiative/init-gefyra/) and aimed at
promoting Sustainable Development Goals Nos 4 and 8 of the United Nations.

The two previous annual cycles of the programme were fully successful, as all the engineers who had participated, were able to find jobs within less than three months after they had completed the programme, while a number of them joined directly the Metallurgy Business Unit of MYTILINEOS.

According to the social value analysis of the programme, which was based on the internationally recognised Social Return On Investment (SROI) methodology, a world-class innovative approach for industry, the Company’s total investment in the programme produced a social value representing a return ratio (SROI) of 4.24:1. In other words, every €1 invested in the programme “ENGINEERS IN ACTION” generated the equivalent of €4.24 of social value, reflecting fully the advantages of such initiative, which contributes to building a society that offers equal opportunities within a sustainable environment.

For the young Engineers who benefited from the programme, the most important changes included finding work after completing the programme, improving their professional skills, gaining knowledge about the operation of a modern industrial environment and gaining enhanced confidence and optimism for the future through their participation in the programme.

The Metallurgy Business Unit of MYTILINEOS has been staffed with new, competent executives and has incorporated expertise required to manage such programmes, as well as to draw benefits in terms of human resources turnover and embrace new ideas. Candidates should email their CVs by 12 January 2018 to hr@alhellas.gr, quoting “ENGINEERS IN ACTION III” in the subject.
