An additional system integrators corner educates on and shows how EnOcean-based solutions can be connected to an integrated system saving energy while increasing comfort and security – from commercial building solutions with thousands of sensor nodes to residential private homes with highly individual requirements.

The EnOcean Alliance is a consortium of more than 400 companies worldwide, offering automation solutions based on the EnOcean energy harvesting wireless standard (ISO/IEC 14543-3-1X) for buildings and smart homes. The technology and EnOcean-based solutions, working without wires and batteries, see great traction in the French market. This was recently again emphasized by the EnOcean Alliance Summer Universities in Lyon with more than 250 attendees. At Interclima, the EnOcean Alliance exhibits alongside the Smart Buildings Alliance (SBA) and the Fédération Française de Domotique (FFD). Both organizations also joined the Summer Universities, which resulted in 20 integrators of FFD becoming a member of the EnOcean Alliance.

“Today, an intelligent building is subject to the law of the Internet of Things. It needs an integrated approach of controlling different building areas synchronized with each other and the tenants’ needs. This demands solutions that are highly flexible, modular and secure,” says Emmanuel François, Sales Manager West Europe, EnOcean. “The only way to fulfill the IoT requirements in smart homes and smart buildings are wireless solutions, which can be flexibly installed and combined, all wirelessly connected to IP. EnOcean is the most established standard on the market to provide the information on the first communication level in such an intelligent system with maintenance-free sensor solutions. In addition, the retrofit of existing buildings is a huge challenge. EnOcean wireless and battery-less solutions offer the best answer to the market’s request for a quick and optimized retrofit, particularly in regard to today’s major issues in France and in the world in the context of Energy Saving Contracts such as CPE (Contrat Performance Energétique) promoted by French authorities.”

The system integrators corner

A part of the EnOcean Alliance booth is particularly dedicated to system integrators. Experts from Savntech, NVH Bâtiment Intelligent, ALCANTE and ARTCOM inform about integrated system solutions based on the EnOcean standard. They provide advice for commercial and residential buildings and present best practice projects. Savntech, for example, retrofitted French retail chains with battery-less, wireless automation. NVH in turn is specialized in commercial buildings integrating Niagara and EnOcean as well as in smart homes, which use EnOcean-based solutions at the same costs as a classical installation. ALCANTE is dedicated to residential building projects and uses EnOcean technology for different sensors connected to a dedicated gateway.

The product highlights at the EnOcean Alliance booth

AVIDSEN is a French company, specialized in designing smart wireless devices for the connected home, divided in several areas such as home security, energy management, access control and electrical appliances control. At the show, AVIDSEN will present its portfolio of connected devices designed in France, using different wireless protocols; all are low power consumption, easy to install, simple to use. The product range includes EnOcean-based devices and solutions for the control of heating boilers and electrical heating systems via control line (Fil Pilote). It automatically adapts the temperature in a house to individual needs; providing comfort heat when the tenants are at home, an energy-saving mode when everybody is absent, an anti-freeze functionality for holidays and a complete turn off for the summer time. This system links all components to a central box and achieves energy savings of 30 to 40 percent. AVIDSEN differentiates itself with an efficient time to market product development, and is also a pan European player in the field of IoT with subsidiaries throughout Europe.

Altecon is introducing its completely new solution for electrical heating control (Fil Pilote) to the market. In addition, the Italian company is showcasing its SH445xx family of dimming controllers, its smart system for optimal LED lighting control in hotels and offices. Besides this, Altecon will show its stand-alone room controllers capable of direct fan coil (SH324) or split (SH320) driving and management of all sensors and devices, ideal for achieving energy savings and optimal comfort in hotels. The Altecon SH024 WiFi/EnOcean gateway creates a backbone network by simply retrofitting the existing WiFi infrastructure.

Debflex is presenting several smart home devices for the do-it-yourself and the professional market. This includes battery-less switches and installation boxes supporting the EnOcean standard, which complement Debflex’s “Casual” portfolio of wiring devices. All solutions are distributed by Leroy Merlin.

Micropelt is showing the energy-autonomous, battery-free iTRV, which makes it possible to equip the numerous radiators in existing buildings, residential and commercial, with a maintenance-free single room control – without any installation work. Due to its energy-saving and maintenance-free characteristics, it is also highly attractive for energy performance contracting projects (CPE, Contrat de Performance Energétique), where a reliable long-term cost overview plays a significant role for the savings and services calculation of the contract. The Micropelt thermogenerator generates the required energy for the servodrive and radio electronics from the temperature difference between inlet temperature and ambient air. The system operates autonomously at inlet temperatures as low as 32 °C. The Micropelt thermostatic radiator valve demonstrated its functionality in extensive field tests. It operated reliably throughout the year, 365 days, and can be easily integrated into a network of EnOcean products.

Ogga will introduce its ECO TOUCH product; in accordance with RT2012. The solution offers automated control of heating, monitoring during absence times and can easily replace an energy meter at the heart of a house. It uses the consumption data to learn, analyze, automate and act independently, without programming, according to the residents’ behavior, at a competitive price. Via a seamless interface, users can simply add battery-less, wireless sensors and switches plug&play to their ECO TOUCH system.

SMARTHOME EUROPE is a leading home automation distributor, closely linked to Domadoo, a web distributor for smart home devices. The two companies demonstrate the Jeedom home automation solution. As an open source project, it offers a free App for basis control functionalities. Only advanced scenarios are licensed. This enables users an easy entry into a smart home.
