Skanska Infra, Pöyry and Ramboll consortium to improve Highway 6 between Taavetti and Lappeenranta, Finland

The Finnish Transport Agency has signed an agreement with a consortium formed by Skanska Infra, Pöyry and Ramboll on the execution phase of Highway 6 between Taavetti and Lappeenranta. The work is carried out as an alliance-based project. The same consortium also executed the development phase that was initiated in March 2015.

COPENHAGEN, 22-9-2015 — /EuropaWire/ — In the project, a 28 km stretch of Highway 6, including 12 km of new road, will be upgraded to a four-lane highway with a central barrier. The improvement will cater to safer and more fluid traffic flow. Environmental impacts are mitigated with noise and groundwater protection.

Highway 6 is the main road connection in South Karelia in Eastern Finland, serving both local and long-distance traffic. It is also a key industrial route for raw materials and harbour transport.

The total value of the project is €76 million. The execution is phased over 2017 and 2018. The project is the Finnish Transport Agency’s first ordinary road construction project to be realised using an alliance approach, in which the client and the main providers are responsible for the design and construction, and jointly share the risks and opportunities.
