Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water education rangers to give visitors unique access inside Pen y Garreg Dam on Tuesday 28th October

WALES, 22-10-2014 — /EuropaWire/ — Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water’s Elan Valley Estate is inviting visitors to join them for a special trip inside one of its dams in the Elan Valley this half term.

On Tuesday 28th October, between 1pm and 4pm, the Rangers will be giving visitors unique access inside Pen y Garreg Dam and a trip up to the viewing platform and central tower.

Fiona Wase, Education Ranger said: “This is an ideal opportunity for those interested in the history of the dam to get out of the house during half term for the last chance this year to visit inside Pen y Garreg Dam.

“There are steps inside the dam, as well as low light levels and some areas which may be wet under foot, so we ask that children are supervised at all times.”

Those interested in participating should park at Penbont car park and take a walk up through the woodland to the dam entrance.

Entrance is £1 for both adults and children with all proceeds going to the charity WaterAid. Our Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water Education Ranger, Fiona Wase, will get to see first-hand how international charity WaterAid transforms lives when she visits the charity’s safe water and sanitation projects in Uganda next month.

Fiona, who has worked as an Education Ranger in the Elan Valley for the past 17 years, will be representing the water company on the week-long trip, departing on 15 November, along with fundraisers from eleven other water companies. Fiona will meet with communities to find out what life is like without safe water and sanitation and visit WaterAid projects in both urban slums and rural villages to see how the money raised by Welsh Water employees and customers is making a difference.
