(PRESS RELEASE) BERKSHIRE, 9-Feb-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Vodafone Group Plc has confirmed that its African subsidiary Vodacom Group Limited has announced Vodafone Egypt’s participation in a multi-year spectrum investment programme led by Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority. The programme covers spectrum allocations in the 1,800MHz and 3,500MHz bands, as well as the renewal of existing 2,600MHz spectrum, and is intended to support the continued development of Egypt’s mobile telecommunications infrastructure.

In the first phase of the programme, Vodafone Egypt has secured an additional 2 x 10MHz of spectrum in the 1,800MHz band. The associated payment will be made in four annual instalments, beginning with US$100 million in financial year 2026. The newly acquired spectrum is expected to provide Vodafone Egypt with significantly increased network capacity, enabling the operator to enhance data performance and better meet rising demand for reliable, high-quality mobile voice and broadband services across the country.

The subsequent phase of the programme is scheduled to begin in financial year 2028 and run through to financial year 2032. During this period, the Egyptian authorities plan to allocate new spectrum in the 3,500MHz band, which is typically used for advanced 5G services, and to renew existing 2,600MHz spectrum holdings currently in use by Vodafone Egypt.

Following the acquisition, Vodafone Egypt’s spectrum portfolio in the 1,800MHz band will increase from 2 x 10MHz to 2 x 20MHz, all expiring in 2039. Its existing holdings in the 900MHz, 2,100MHz, and 2,600MHz bands remain unchanged, with expiry dates in 2039, 2039, and 2032 respectively.

Vodafone Group has indicated that, as a result of the new 1,800MHz spectrum purchase, it expects to recognise an additional intangible spectrum asset of approximately US$350 million on its balance sheet. For accounting purposes, all euro-denominated figures are based on an exchange rate of US$1 to €0.84.

Vodafone Group operates as a major telecommunications provider across Europe and Africa, serving more than 360 million mobile and broadband customers. The company maintains networks in 15 countries, holds investments in a further five, and collaborates with partners in over 40 additional markets. It also manages capacity on more than 70 subsea cable systems, runs one of the world’s largest Internet of Things platforms with over 230 million connections, and provides financial services to around 94 million customers in seven African countries.
